    Plasma or LCD?

My brother went out and bought a samsung 42" plasma 720 600hz

But I told him to get the 40" samsung LCD it is 1080 80hz

What do you guys think? I am very sure the LCD is better looking and last longer too.

P.S. He plays ALOT of FPS (GOW2, MW2, H3) So I am worried about it burning in the HUD. Best buy says it is fixed but crutch field still rates a LCD higher.

I love it how TVs are so cheap now! I got my 27" flat screen 6 years ago and cost 50 bucks less than the plasma.

I know, that is what I am planning on upgrading to. But for what he wants I think the LCD is better and the LED is 400 more for a 32" Buy the LCD and wait till the LED is cheap like the LCDs are now.

LED is LCD, it just has a LED back light so they can be thinner and more efficient. Maybe a slight improvement in picture quality, but nothing huge.

Not worth the shit load of extra dime. But I think the LCD will have a longer life span and less lag hang in video games.

yeah, the burn in issue has been somewhat resolved however it is still not totally eradicated, i would've also recommended the LCD, you should also look into the new bravia's, they look especially good with the LED's

However, imho the LED's that you see mostly are only edge lit, which frequently does not support local dimming technology which produces better blacks so it is not totally worth the extra $$ needed to buy them, however the LED TV's that do support local dimming look excellent, even on par with some plasma's on colour accuracy

LCD for 99% of everyone. Plasma if it's in a constantly dark room.

Technically Plasma is better - but only when the room lights are down low. That said, there some killer deals on large plasmas. I have no clue where the 3D stuff is going to go to. My guess is that it's a fad.

i dont think 3D is a fad. i think the end goal is holographic projection. so full 3D monitors and TVs are just a step in the right direction.

I like my plasma tons more than my LCD, the plasma just has so much more color depth. But the future is OLED TVs.

This is the 3rd of 4th time "3D" has been a fad, so I think it might stay...but holographic is what is gonna happen, star wars all over again.

LCD vs Plasma? Not even a fucking chance: Plasma all the damn way.

Blackout curtains are your friend. Motion is SO much better, transitions, black levels, intensity...everything is better on plasma. I will take a 60Hz Plasma over a 120Hz LCD and damn day. Everyone looks like they are doing the robot on LCDs.

Unless you are a little kid who plays video games. Then, who fucking cares what you buy, your face is gonna be glued to the damn thing 24/7, until you run out of Mt.Dew and have to go back to 7-11 and get another 2 liter.

                      Closing SOON!

Beat me to it, Luke :)

Panasonic makes one of the best Plasmas out there too. If he got a decent model, then he should be set. I've got the 58" V10 Panasonic. Mmmmm, the color quality is amazing.

The negative of Plasma is the brightness, power, phosphorus life, and burn-in. Unless your room is made of windows, the brightness isn't a big deal and the power differences is very small. Life isn't a problem unless you're one to buy a new TV every 20 years. And burn-in isn't an issue unless you display a single power-point slide all day.

The positives include superior color quality and much higher contrast. The contrast is what the LED LCD trys to combat. The issue is that traditional LCDs use a continuous lit, constant brightness back light, which means that even when they display black, it is displayed with light behind it. Plasma and (to an extent) locally-dimmed LED LCD vary the light for the different colors/brightness. Keep in mind, locally-dimmed LED LCDs do not dim per pixel (yet), while the Plasma does.

I've already had to replace my 46" Toshiba after only 2 years. LCD panel went bad. I'm not expecting the new wave of inexpensive TV's to be like the old CRT in terms of life.

To anyone else reading, Toshiba is not worth buying. They were not surprized with the failure and told me to jump in a lake.

Plasma is better, hands down. You can even run them on Torch mode when if te occasion comes up that you need it to be brighter.

LED's are just style/fasion. Sure thin is cool, but the same amount you would spend on a LED would get you a Plasma with better picture.
