Oil stops leaking into Gulf during BP test

that has nothing to do with the brand, and everything to do with government lawsuits & regulations. The other guys just don't want to be regulated to death or sued. They might rethink their use/design of BOP's and safety strategies, but it's not like they (or BP) wanted this to happen. You don't think other oil companies are looking at the BP backlash and re-thinking their strategies? Are you kidding me? What does it do? What does the brand mean? WTF? Come on, you're a reasonably smart guy. Look at the bigger picture here. You don't need me to hold you hand.
Some of you guys like to argue this shit just for shits and giggles. I swear.
If you guys think BP profits are hurt by your little boycott, you're living in a dream world. Refining probably accounts for less than 5-10% of their profits. So if 2% of the population decides to boycott the "evil" oil companies by not going to BP gas stations (when you have no idea where that gas came from), how much do you think that affects them?
In 10 years, nobody will even remember it happened, we'll have moved on to the next disaster/tragedy/political soap opera. Nobody ever thought Exxon would recover either..Leave a comment:

And it's probable that the other gas station that you buy your fuel at is selling product refined by BP.

Secondly, boycotting BP makes a statement, sends a message, blah, blah, blah. But it's more than that - BP is a "damaged" brand name, and I for one would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see the BP name removed from all those gas stations. So yea, boycott. Burn the station down. Don't buy gas there.
I know you think you're being super clever by having this bit of knowledge of where the gas actually comes from - but fuck it - it's about the brand. Kill the brand, and you'll send a message. Naw mean?Leave a comment:

Yes thats just how a gas station makes all of its money, sure as hell is not on fuel. The govt adds so much built in taxation to the fuel that there is no room for profit on it. Its even worse in europe than it is here in the states.
As far as boycott of BP Nadno is dead on, we all could stop buying BP branded gas, it would not hurt them very much in the long haul, its not going to get rid of them. And 2 why would you want them to not make any money and go into receivership, and not be able to pay to close up and clean up the mess???? A crippled BP is worth nothing to anyone in the gulf or to the environment.Leave a comment:
