    Learn me on E24s

My brothers E28 just took a shit, and while I think he got is getting it fixed, it's obviously on its last legs and he's been looking to get a new car.

He loves my E30 and always fucking asks to drive it when I'm home.
I figure if he can buy a new (relative to him) car, he can get something cool, and we can just swap cars depending on whatever situation we find ourselves in. He skis a ton, and I snowboard, so the iX is perfect for trips to Tahoe, which is the main reason I bought it, but I definitely would like something RWD and 2 doors for a summer/non-Tahoe car.

There is a black E24 635Csi in my parking garage that seriously has not moved once in the 2 months I've lived here. It's dusty as shit, and looks neglected, but the paint looks like it's in good shape. As for mechanicals, I obviously don't know, but I left a note on the windshield so hopefully the owner will contact me.
Apart from that car, I was criusing through Craigslist and I found a couple E24s all for under 4k or so.

I like how they look, and want one. I know they're not as nimble and tossable as an E30, but I kinda want something that's more cruiser friendly for highway driving and whatnot.

With that said, anyone wanna school me on E24s? Common problems, what to look for, pricing. Is there a specific E24 forum, like r3v or mye28?

If he likes e30's get him an e30. E24 is an ok car but it doesnt have the same feel. I never bonded with mine. Too big, too soft, too numb. Of course it was all stock. Just not for me

If he wants an E30, he can drive mine.
I just kinda want a highway cruiser that I can commute to and from school with, so I figure if he/we buy this, I can drive this unless I need the E30 for Tahoe or want to drive it, and he can have the E30 for most other times.

If you want a cruiser thats tough as nails get an e24

Its no e30 and never will be, doesn't handle like an e30 or e28 but damn when i'm cruising around in mine i couldn't be happier. Its got power and and gets going whenever you need it to. And is super super comfortable.

Like i said its no e30, but thats why you get it and an e30.

Rust is an issue with mine, you gotta watch for it around the rear sub frame mounts.

other wise, the doors sag because of worn pins, ball joints go bad, the rear speaker covers peel apart, and the power steering is part of the brake system other wise they have the usual problems but nothing major.

just don't break the tail lights! or rip off the front bumper covers!

ask euroshark he knows alot more then me.

this was probably all over the place, if you want more info or have questions just PM me. But in all honesty i love my shark and think its great to have with the ee30, only thing i wish is i wish i had something with 4 doors also.

They are not cheap to find parts for and are not good on gas. I paid ALOT in parts to get mine going. They are sick looking and rare to see(around here anyways)

              It is a cruiser 100%

Not to sure... 18 Hw 15 town is what wiki is saying. It is an auto too =(

It took me 3 months to source a windshield for mine. Parts are hard as HELL to find. I would play this one out, it might not need much.

I am thinking about just pulling the motor and throwing it in the cabby. Then part the fucker out.

e24's are great cars. I drove a 635 (faux euro) and it reminded me of my Peugeot. To give you an idea, it felt soft, cushiony, semi-luxe, with a bit of grunt. I say buy one, but w/o euro bumpers they look like barges.

:) I'm glad to know I'm not the only who drives their e30 to tahoe. even though i can take an awd volvo, or an old stationwagon, i choose the e30 every time. Doesn't get any better than 3rd gear through hwy 89.

                      this.

my friend has a m635csi, and his dad has a m6 (with the m88 motor, sounds godly). and they are big, nice cars. but i dunno. i just dont feel it.

                        This,

Its great feeling on the highway, but as noted its nothing like a e30 feels really big, and it is.

First off everything takes longer to fix, its nothing like an e30. Small things like trim replacement, bumper surrounds, etc. take twice as long. E30s are so easy to work on. Parts more expensive as well.

Check out the brakes make sure they are not seized. Tail lights, specifically the metal surrounds, they go bad and expensive to replace.

Nice suspension, exhaust, Miller Maf/chip and a short shifter will go a long way on a m30/e24.

Dont go on bigcoupe.com you'll be messed up, you will see awesome cars, and fall in love and want one...

If you go to bigcoupe.com, there's a lot of information on what to look for right on the homepage. My m635csi with race suspension handles amazing, and makes my dads m635csi look soft. His car makes a normal 6 look like jello. A decent suspension goes a looong way in e24's. As much as I thought I'd miss my e30 (which was also my first car,) I don't, and that's probably because I bought a 6.

Are you dead set on an e24? If you like the older BMWs what about an e23 735, in my opinion those are great cars and if you can find one in a five speed it is even better. Plus I think it may be easier to find parts for them, but I don't know how hard it is to find parts for the e24s.

^In regards to that, the 6 series share a large amount of parts with the e28 5 series, as chassis is nearly identical. Outside of that, parts aren't too outrageous. Another thing to check is if the rear is sitting low. In the later models (87 or 88 i believe,) self leveling suspension was introduced, so just be observant.
