    Armenian=European?

    I'm piecing together my family tree for a project. Would you call Armenians Europeans?

        well, i have had people call it Asian, and Eurasian, is it one or the other? My ancestry is sorta mixed, but mainly from the caucus area/iran, and I have finally decided to tackle tracing my ancestry

              regardless of what wiki says, as a population, I'd still say Armenia is Eastern European...

                Caucuses.......definitely a lot more in common with the middle eastern/central asian melting pot than what we normally think of as "Europe".

                  ^This
                  Georgian's, Armenian's, etc, I would consider all of them as being in the Caucuses, it is one of the regions of the world that doesn't have a clear cut definition, kinda like the Middle East.

                            Armenia is further East than Turkey, which is considered a Middle Eastern country (even though Turkey wants to join the EEC). Check a map, and you'll find Armenia between Azerbajian, Georgia, Iran, Syria and Turkey. And if defining "European" by its religion (Christianity), then Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as the official state religion (3rd century - a few years before the US)...

                            Christianity was the Armenians' curse and led to the genocide of 500,000 Armenians. That Armenian holocaust took place around 1915, which I am sure you already know.

                              ^why do you have to post something like that in every thread. Now this is probably going to turn into a politico-religious debate.
