Yeah, I had 35mb+ connection in California. I guess it's the trade-off. Can you guys imagine how many forums I could postwhore if only I had the speed?

It's copper pair issue, and they are not upgrading out here within the next 5 years. For reference, I live on a two mile long section of road with maybe 40 houses on it. We are outside of city limits, and are not the priority to them.

Yeah, it kinda sounds daunting, I want to buy something, take it out of the box and set it up.
Yeah that is very similar to my area... When I moved here, they had JUST started offering highspeed in general and that' just because I'm on the main road going through the "town" which is tiny!!!

Me too, but raw milk used to make the cheese has resolved that for me, and aging it for 6mo/1yr also helps.

You've already tried the satellite companies? They offer broadband.

Often time there is also long range wi-fi. That's what I'm on and love it. I have a dish pointed to a mountain top about about 10-15 miles away. They throttle your connection a bit, but the ping times are insanely good.

Yeah, I looked into a few eg. HughesNet, and they are cost prohibitive I've been told, and limit your monthly data volume.

I am reading your post a little bit deeper, and from what I know, DishNetwork/DirectTV only package deals with available services in your area, being as all that the infrastructure here supports is DSL. Land based anyway.

Don't bother with satellite. My parents got it when they lived in bumfuck and it's atrociously expensive (~100 month) for pathetic speeds (768k) and if you somehow exceed their bandwidth limits (ours was arbitrarily set at 200mb a month) they put you in an inescapable 14kbps probation. It was terrible.

^The services differ with each provider. Try WildBlue. I think their cap is 12 gig a month. That's more than the average user does.

Farbin. When is it that the 7 MB is not enough for you? Don't tell me you need 7 to surf forums.
