Dealer trashes M5 on "test" drive

I need to get my hands on SSS and ProgMan. GT1 is cool though. I got it working with an ebay VAGCOM cable and an OBDII to BMW 20 pin adapter :D

Throttle position, engine speed, vehicle speed, brake position, traction control information. It would be pretty easy to show that they were flooring it and going too fast.

Its not cop show shit in modern cars. Hell, its been the case for some time now in higher tech cars. Shit, they can even void your warranty for using unauthorized programming (like the "launch control hack").

well being as I am a tech at a dealership and somehow have never seen that button on anything, I would like you to explain to me how I would do that. btw, we are not using the old GT1 anymore-- we have been on the ISID for some years now-- not that I could find accident info with the GT1 either though.

as far as toyota??? I have no idea, but I imagine it has to do with they couldn't prove otherwise


of course software changes can be found with the sss or even the isid, hell, every few cars with the old GT1 it would actually test the ECU and send the data to Munich. but no, it isnt possible to pull up any info on a car at any given time.

The owner needs to go back to the dealership with the new information and talk it through. Seriously, the only thing perhaps worse than the dealership wrecking the car is the owner freaking out, suing and making a huge public deal out of it instead of communicating with the dealer and giving them the chance to fix their mistake. Shit happens and this is the wrong way to deal with it.

The DME records everything; they can retrieve the information as to the speed before impact etc. It's done on purpose because of new car warranty. These cars have launch mode and therefore if there is a problem with the car they want to know if it is "driver fault." And yes it is!!! He wrecked your car from negligence and I would have them NOT touch the car; contact a lawyer and and speak with the owner of the dealership or have your lawyer speak with the owner of the dealership. Don't move the car and don't authorize any work. Get an outside appraisal company to est the damage and get it in writing. I new car may not be in order but whatever damage is seen or unseen should be taken care of. However, aside for fixing the car; you should be awarded a handsome compensation package. They may even replace the car just to avoid negative press on further legal hassle. They screwed up BIG and they have to own up to it. I would even go as far as to speak with someone at BMW USA corporate offices.
I worked for BMW years back and a car jockey did the same thing. He was fired but I don't know what the outcome was for the customer's car in the end.
