what the fuck you make no sense. bmw is the honda of the sports car world if you want to make it in those terms, and specialized would be before cannondale in that category...

I will agree with a previous poster, do not spend the money on XTR. XT is very reliable and durable and half the price. The Xtr just weighs less and weight is not your problem.

Also I rode a cannondale lefty 29er the other day, it rode beautifully. you may want to consider a 29er if you ride where there are alot of log overs, but if you have alot of tight low speed stuff the standard 26 is superior.

The guy I ride with has both depending on what trail we are going to....must be nice.

And oh yeah, I totally forgot about specialized. They really do make a great bike.

^^ Interesting...I remember reading about the 29" stuff when I bought my (2002?) Gary Fisher Sugar 3+ about 3 yrs ago. But I can't complain for the price I paid. It is full suspension but i'm not riding NEARLY as much as I would like to. I think I may sell it and get a fresh hardtail 29er. Anyone have any suggetions, don't mean to thread jack.

I had a Sugar 3, that was a great bike. Bought it used and sold it for what I paid a year later.

Yeah. The guy that bought it didn't realize he bought the wrong size frame till a few months later when he strated riding it. I'm 8" taller than he was, and it fits me nicely. But I don't trail ride often enough anymore. I need something else. I was just checking out the Fisher 29ers on the Trek page, the Marlin and Mamba look to suit, as does the 6000. Any input??

Damn I wish I still had my '95 7000 but I think my Mother threw it out when she moved last year......

for a 29er, i posted a couple already, and obviously cannondale, niner air nine is a hell of a bike if you build it, salsa, etc. or even a motobecane, they were reviewed in Mountain Bike Action the other day and it had rave reviews, and its titanium, and i believe its full sram xx, and if you go to bikes direct.com you can get a major deal. Only problem is that you cant test ride or get fitted on it.

I would definitely recommend a hardtail. Unless you can get a team deal or something at cost, the bikes direct bikes are probably the best bang for the buck.

I originally started out on one and it's a great beginner bike.

Looks sweet, and light. But I can't spend that much, unless some numbnut gives me $1100 for my Sugar 3.

My friend rides a Transition and swears by it. I've had awesome luck with Rocky Mountain hardtails and could recommend their steel ones.

herp derp cannondale no longer built in the US, i dont think they have been for a while now. And almost anything carbon has to be built in china due to the pollution associated with it.

I have an old (1990) cannondale road bike, I love it <33333 although it was my dads in college and it hadnt been ridden in a long time so I adopted it about 2 years ago haha. THOSE are nice handbuilt bikes, although kinda heavy and rigid as fuck.

herp derp, my frame was the last year that they were handbuilt in the US...for the CAAD. IIRC, other higher-end models are still built in the you esse.
