i've got a 2011 Giant Revel1 bike. Cost $500, just a basic mountain bike with disc brakes. Nothing fancy but I love it and would recommend it.

I am wanting to build a custom bike soon. A do it all ride to school, and trial bike.

Im thinking Soma Frame, Deore XT, Avid BB7's and Rockshox tora? Im not too sure about the fork, but I'm certain about the rest. And then RItchey bars, seatpost, stem, etc. Ooooh and awesome Race Face deus cranks.

For the wheels, Ill have a shop build them. I want velocity rims, but havn't read into their mountain reputation yet, I know they are great on the road.

Just because no one has thrown the name out yet... Norco makes awesome bikes. Ive owned a Kona and Rocky mountain(both downhill) and the Norco a-line has been the best by far. After that I picked up a Norco DJ for around town/urban. I would like to pick up a Shore for the local trails. Just my two cent

WHy Reba? Also mehcanical discs aren't too bad, and you dont have to worry about belled issues. This is a budget build, and hydraulic discs will break the bank

Norco makes kick ass frames as well. When I was in whistler for crankworx, i tried one out on the A-line, and I was impressed with its geometry.

pads fade way quickly. and tora isnt as adjustable.

shimano slx are best bang for the buck. Dont drag, some would say more durable than xt, and great performance.
