I got one from HF for around 100. Works well and is pretty stable.

I've used a few $40 engine stands. The problem is when it comes time to turning the engine over to work on it, that the balance becomes really upset and it's possible it will topple over.

If you need a stand just to keep it off the floor, a $40 stand will do. If you plan on flipping the engine over to do bearings etc., then you might want to get a nice $100 stand, or have a friend around when you flip the engine over, just in case.

I think your best bet is a 4 wheel stand over those 3 wheeled bitches

I have a HF stand and hoist, along with a load leveler. Got them on special for ~$200 a few years ago.

Get the folding hoist, and get a 4 wheel stand. The load leveler is very well worth the cost, when pulling an engine.

Mine have been working problem free, I've used them many many times (probably over 20 engine pulls, plus lifting other heavy stuff around the garage). My stand is balanced nicely, I've had a couple m20's on there in various states of dissasembly, it always felt stable and spun nice (I do keep it greased).

Get on HFs email list, the 4 wheel pops up pretty often for $40ish, I got mine for $30.

Spend the extra on the 4 wheel, it is far superior.

Also depends which motor. I had the 1000lb HF engine stand. I figured the 500ish lb m30 would be fine on it. Wrong. The stand bent.
