Thats pretty crazy. I might bring a block of ice with me the next time I go shooting, I like to recover some of the bullets I shoot, the striations from the barrel look neat to me.

that's crazy. I didn't realize that the rifling on guns spun it that much.

I think I'm more impressed that the bullet isn't damaged.

Wet phone books are much saver to recover fired bullets.

Yea, a 9mm round will spin about 65,000 rpm! (900 fps, with 1:10 twist barrel).

              A 223 round at 2500 fps in a 1:9 barrel will spin 200,000 rpm.

                    it doesnt ricochet.

it hits the ice and creates a pocket that traps it. it loses all forward momentum. but not its rotational energy since the ice does not have a very high coefficient of friction to stop it from spinning.

I can't believe the bullet doesn't shatter into a hundred pieces when it hits the ice.

Yeah thats what I came up w/ after thinking about it for a bit.

Bullet hits the ice, and then spins around and moves, then stops and just spins in place.

I don't think slugs blow apart.

                              this is not mythbusters worthy.

only an idiot would think that this is impossible.
