Love the ads - anybody that makes fun of boring cars and the people that drive them wins in my book.

I loved my 02 WRX. 80k miles, 100+ drag passes and 3-4 track days, and the clutch finally started to slip. Dead-on reliable, fun to drive, etc. Great cars.

Over here, the pricing is much closer and the STi gets better seats, better turbo, better diffs, better driveshafts, better wheelbearings & hubs, better steering rack, better intercooler, better heads, etc, etc.

It's no doubt a better car, I won't argue with that. I just don't think its worth it over the WRX nowadays.

I actually kind of wish car makers would stop worrying about the bells and whistles they were mocking in the video. The features that make today's car fat and bloated are in large parts thanks to the useless feartures arms race.

blergh. Also pretty much all modern subarus dont look any better than the beige thing

Pricing's closer here too. STi starts at $34k, WRX starts at $26k.

I'd take the STi personally, for the fancy center diff if for no other reason.

I've been wondering the same thing for years. How many people work at that factory if they sell 10s of thousands of these handbuilt engines and still have time to make F1 engines along with the ones for Pagani and whoever else uses those torque monsters.

The number of sti's on the road would be about half of what it is if it wasn't for that damn ken block, I would take a 96 sti over a 2011 sti.

I daily a new subaru legacy, and although the paddle shifters are mildly entertaining, the seats kill my back, the engine is anemic(but pretty high strung for a four banger), and the trunk is tiny. Plus I can't get over the fact that a car advertises its awd, but is so low to the ground it would get stuck in the snow drift next to the house and the manual says you can not put chains on the tires because of clearance issues.

                    Excellent gas mileage though.

Trying to understand what Subaru is trying to do with this "Mediocrity" advertizing spin. Except for the WRX STi, Subarus are indeed mediocre, boring cars. Beige and uneventfull, just like the commercial. They are simply reinforcing this image with this stunt. Not good at all.

FAIL. Because most Subarus are indeed mediocre cars.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Eh, I think most Subarus are better than the milquetoast, cookie cutter cars that the vast majority of non-car enthusiasts buy and drive.

Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Ford Taurus, etc. These cars are rolling snoozefests.

How many of you guys have driven a handful of Subarus? I'm not saying, like your sister's boyfriend let you drive his WRX around the block once... How many have spent like an hour or more in various chassis; WRX, STi, Leg Spec B, Outback, 2.5XT, etc....

So many haters, and there always seems to be a bit of jealousy or envy whether they wanna admit it or not. WRX and STi for track and boy racer, Spec B and 2.5XT for a kick ass road car / DD... If you disagree, good for you, go spend some more time behind the wheels of each. I just think it's funny that everyone talks shit about Subaru for one reason or another, but they're really a fantastic car company.

As for the Ken Block comment, I couldn't agree more... When I had my Subarus it was an OK group of locals, still a lot of waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffless, but there were a bunch of cool guys. Post Ken Block, it's nothing but skinny, strung out Cali-fuck heads decked out head to toe in Ken Block hats, hoodies, logos, and Monster logos...

                              I own a subaru.

It's a good family car. Otherwise, it's boring, slow, and heavy. The engine sounds/runs like a tractor motor.

I like that there is tons of room to put stuff in the back, it's really simple to work on for a 2003, and it has AWD so my wife won't call me in tears because she's stuck somewhere.

Is it refined and elegant like a 2003 BMW? hell no. The engine is a 25 year old design. it gets horrible fuel economy for such a small motor. Like most japanese cars, the legroom up front sucks ass. I smash my knees into the steering column every time I get in, and if I get into a wreck my knee cap will get taken out by the ignition switch/keys.

But at the same time, the mechanical simplicity is what I like about it.

if you lived in the PNW you might think different. There mighta ctually be more Subaru's here than Camry's. It might be close. the fucking Prius would be in the running too. So many damn old/rich hippies here..
