I want to see relatively (in today's standards) lightweight, fun to drive, manual transmission RWD cars. Less than 300lbs, in the 250-275hp range, preferably with a big turbo'd four tuned for midrange.

Bring in the cost in around $25k and they will do great.

I would have purchased a Genesis R-Spec, but they are so heavy. Nearly 3400lbs IIRC. Too much for a car that only has 225hp.
It's just about 3380lb for the V6, which is rated at 308hp. The turbo is like 3297lbs but only rated at 210hp.

BUT.... Something to think about... The original V6 coupe was designed to compete with the Mustang... Now that the Mustang has a 5.0, it blows the V6 coupe out of the water... Rumor has it around town here that Hyundai is bringing their own 5.0 to the table. And they already have a 4.6L V8 making 375hp so "If"/when this V8 Genesis rears it's head I would fully expect it to be 400+ hp.

Also... The new Sonata has a 275hp Direct Injected turbo motor, that may or not be making it's way into the coupe... Who wants to buy a 210hp performance coupe with a small turbo, when you could get a 275hp, larger turbo, map controlled motor in sedan for the same money? Seen the monster sidemounted intercooler in the Sonata? haha Only thing the coupe has the Sonata doesn't is a manual trans and RWD... but either way by 2012 the Gen Coupe game should be stepped up.

Just some "rumors" I hear around the shop.

Personally I really like the Genesis Coupe R-spec. Yes they're heavy, but much lighter than a 1-series and with a turbo 4-banger that you can easily and cheaply make big power with. Combine what with a stick and rwd... it's a great combo.

Think about it. What do all the great sports cars have in common? RWD and a stick, and many with a turbo motor. Aside from the 135i (which is a pig) the Genesis is the only car on the market today that fits the bill. And it looks pretty fucking good for a Hyundai IMO.

Oh and +1 on the G8 GXP too. 420hp in a 4-door sedan with good handling at half the price of ze Germans? yes please! I'd import a front clip from Australia and re-badge it a Holden Monaro :)

Thats all i got for now. (ohh, and I agree with the 850i)
The Delorean was not made by GMC. It was made by DMC(Delorean Motor Company) and was the only car they ever made.

            Back on topic though...

I think seeing the 850 and the Supra back would be pretty sweet.

The ABSOLUTLY need to bring back a Corrado in RWD... Their biggest mistake was making it FWD to begin with. The body just looks like it should be RWD.

The E30 could be manufactured in developing nations, such as the old ass Peugeots are still being built in places like Nigeria and Iran.

Surprised nobody has already said it, but are Alfa Romeos being sold in the US again yet?
I love the look of the GTV6 and how it had the brakes in the middle of the car:

On topic PONTIAC..............FIERO no question, it was killed off before its 2ed generation as a profitable model YES A PROFITABLE MODEL, .............................TOO PROTECT THE CORVETTE. At 1/2 the planed cost of the vette in 90 the fiero would have out braked, turned, and accelerated to 120ish, and just run circles around the flagship in everything but top speed.

Thats DMC as in Jon Deloren, who yes was a GM engineer for many years, his biggest claim to fame other than getting invloved with Coke deals to fund his own car company, was as Chief Engineer on the Pontiac GTO

Defenders are still available all over the world just not here in the North America, thanks to the Federal DOT mandating all kinds of stupid safety features (Think air bags) and the fucking EPA and its stupidly low Emissions requirements, and Rover saying fuck you we are not redesigning our truck just to sell it there.

You can still import Defenders so long as they are 25 years old or older. Then none of that matters. Rumors are that the planed redesign of the defender due out in 2015-2017 will be NAS compliant and will be on sale NEW here again.

Word. They should just relax all the laws so we can have that Euro NCAP zero star Chinese truck exported here.

If not sold already must be pretty close because a few weeks back when I was in detroit I saw 4 different types of Alfas tooling around town with manufacturer plates on them. Must be going through all of the EPA/safety testing.
                            Im now E30less.

lol Not Chinese Rover was bought up by Tata an Indian (dot not feather) manufacturer, and so far have let the brits keep to them selves and continue on with what ever they are doing.

They are allowed to sell the defenders in the Nanny states of the UK, AUS, and all over the rest of Europe and nanny state world. That is arguably more Ecco wacky than our EPA and high visibility jacket, no one must get hurt and land on fluffy puppies and rainbows, protect you from your self, runaway OSHA regs. So what gives here in the states, Lobbyist form Chrysler corp lobby to keep the D90 out to protect the Wrangler????? WTF happened to NAFTA and shit in the mid/late 90's when rover was trying to sell the D90 here??????

+1000000 to the Alfa GTV^ (Cream, you beat me to it). Not only the inboard brakes but the rear transaxle setup. Just work out some of the electrical gremlins, stiffen the suspension a bit and it'd be a modern-day winner.
