Indeed. We have a 92' 245 in our family that I drive whenever the e30 is down, or I need the extra room. It was at one point my project car, but the E30 came into my life. The 240 is pretty nice, parents bought it new in Sweden. Its pretty much stage zero, a 5-speed stick, LSD, and has a completely redone suspension.
I have almost all parts for turbocharging it, except the t3/t4, and IC. Manifold and piping are sitting on our garage bench! :(

You clearly havent' owned a Volvo good sir! I was terribly pleased when getting my e30's over the both newer and older Volvo's I've owned.

There's a reason why BMW's cost more (both new and used), and it's not just because of marketing or quarter mile times either.

I heard of people mounting up supra trannies to the b230t.

Don't use a volvo box. Get an adaptor plate to run a ford T5 tranny.

I'd fuck my 850 if it was a chick, thats how awesome they are.

The stock mitsy 15g's are shit, throw itout in favour for a mitsu 19t, gt2871r, hahn super 16g or similar and enjoy.

Scientists have proven that the average human being gives 60% too much of a fvck about most daily
activities, so stop giving a fvck, and drastically reduce your capabilities of giving a fvck

$3k for that 424 is ridiculous. GLWS! haha. not gonna happen, maybe for closer to $700-900 in value. ..the volvo enthusiasts/market is about as happening as the e36 community/market.

on the 424 note, I almost bought one a few years back, but the guy wouldn't budge below his $1800 asking price so it didn't happen. - Swedes are nucking futs - back then i found a drag strip pic of a blown 424 doing a full stand off line!

their 4 bangers (back before Ford bought them and the whole FWD thing happened) are STOUT. like makes an m30/m10 look frail type of STOUT.

We currently have a 94 940, base trim/b23 motor, i've heard the crank journels are DOUBLE the circumference of any other 4 cylinder manufacturer produced in the same era. ...and considering we have close to 500k miles on it and it's never been rebuilt, having only done one head gasket (due to an overheat from faulty tstats - a common issue to be wary of), one auto trans swap, and then the regular tbelt, water pump, oil, plugs type of maintence, this thing won't die. doesn't even burn any oil. leaks about a quart within 3 months or so, but other than that.... ...actually, I did have to replace the ICV last year, First time the volvo parts guy had ever sold one, at least that was his story. I'm gonna drive this thing till I'm Fred Flinstoning' it through rusted out floor pans _ ah my nightmares that keep me awake at night.

Have owned Volvo, MB/AMG, as well as BMW/M. Have had lots of weird little problems with MB's and BMW's, while the Volvo's keep pressing. The build quality is better w/ the German cars, and there is more to love IMHO, but I haven't had the level of reliability with either that I have had with Volvo. Drivetrain wise, they are all solid cars.....but I have had many other nuisance problems that end up being quite costly with both MB/AMG and BMW.

I'll be picking up a 1988 745 w/ a b230FT swapped into it as my new daily driver this week. I'm looking forward to some good four-banger romping, B230FT's are iron clad motors.

We currently have a 94 940, base trim/b23 motor, i've heard the crank journels are DOUBLE the circumference of any other 4 cylinder manufacturer produced in the same era.
93' + B23's had the thicker, beefy 13.1mm rods. 25 + psi on stock internals is common

Ford really fucked up the quality on Volvos. After having 4 Volvos run forever in the family (and knowing of several 150k+ examples, every one running flawlessly) I put the gf in a 2001 S60 2.4t. Fucking shitbox is already killing the transmission to the tune of $3500. She doesn't have that kind of bread. I'm pissed.

I gotta admit tho, ANY of the red block engines are stout! (provided they are FI and not the carb flavour...for anyone who remembers the B21A).

Their powertrains are durable and the seats are comfy, aside from that I dont' find them appealing esp. if you are a person with a pulse who enjoys driving.

I've hear this several times before...ppl blaming Ford for Volvos' downturn in quality. Honestly, by the time the early 90's came, Volvo was under terrible scrutiny from the automotive community for turning out old, stale designs that only they made (solid rear axles, RWD, pitiful performance times, and designs that only a +60 year old senior finds sexy). Just as with Saab, Volvo didnt' get design insturction from Ford just funding to keep their company afloat, very little instruction was given to Volvo on how they should design or build their cars.

It wasn't until the 850 (Volvos' first FWD to be launched in NA) was released, was Volvo able to get noticed for an appealing car that could compete with the germans and the Japs. Who could forget the 850 T5R? a car that at 15 had me drooling at how attractive a canary yellow Volvo wagon could be.

Actually, even recently I've found myself considering selling my e30 for one of these that recently came up for sale...but honestly, nothing can match the simplistic, performance oriented beauty of the e30.
