    Top Gear America.

Just finished watching the first episode and it was pretty eh.

Its way too cut up with commercials so they didn't squeeze in nearly as much content as BBC top gear does in an hour block. The hosts don't seem to have the best chemistry and their interactions seem fake. They are already trying to have the BBC top gear competitiveness between hosts, but it just doesn't work, especially when we don't have any history with the hosts.

On the plus, Tanner Foust can drive quite well, the budget seems large and in the series teaser it appears there will be at least one cheap car challenges and one "How hard could it be" challenge.

    Who else watched?

I really wish they had gone forward with the discovery channel version with Adam Corolla. I know a lot of people don't like him but he defiantly could have pulled off being Jeremy, and he has much more hosting and unscripted experience, that in my opinion would have made the show feel a lot more natural.

Foust is such a non charisma douche, I cant stand him.....Every car he drives on the Speed channel goes something like this: "oh wow this _______ is really fast" Well no shit Tanner its a fucking sports car!

I think once they get to know each other and mesh it'll get better. I hope they don't try to copy bbc too much, or it'll look exactly like it is: a knockoff of a very popular show.. It could really use Adam Corolla though, that chubby one with no glasses is going to annoy me..

what channel / network is it on?

is it any better than the 20min "Battle of the Supercars" show? Because the banter on that show makes me cry.

I wasn't as disgusted as I thought I would be but it definitely needs work. The hosts seem like they just don't know each other so interaction is very scripted, watching them together is very awkward. I don't really mind if the show itself copies OG Top Gear in its format but the show will certainly fail if the hosts just end up trying to copy the interaction between Jeremy, James and Richard.

It is the random challenges where the guys buy cheap, used cars that you really see the true car guy personalities come out, I'm hoping that happens in the US version also. From the first episode, only Tanner stood out to me as being actually into cars but I know nothing about the hosts so maybe they were just really uncomfortable.

I'm not blown away but I will keep watching...for now.

The BBC Topgear so nicely marries cleverly biting and humorous dialogue with car review. I think the first American episode was lacking in the dialogue department a bit. It didn't seem honest to me.

That said, I think it has potential and it may build upon itself.

The dialogue was cringe-worthy and it seemed like they were trying too hard to be funny/witty. And like it was said before, they looked uncomfortable around each other.

I think it all comes down to the American actors trying to reproduce the honest/everyman nature of the BBC crew. When Jeremy says "this car scared the pants off me," you believe him. When Foust says it, you don't.

And when lard-ass says it, you want him to go back to covering NASCAR races.

Hopefully as they all get some common experience under their belts and get more comfortable with eachother, the show will improve. That's one of the greatest assets of the BBC show; the characters all feel like real friends.
