Been riding since I can remember. Skis and Boards.
Just picked up an Empire 164 am/alpine board which i'm carving in softboots. This board is just wicked fast and cuts in nicely!! It was a gift from a friend who works customs at the boat ports...it's what happens when things get seized lol. Thinking about investing in a hardboot setup and really get carving, but for now this is pretty good.

Any setups or guides you know of that could help get me started would be great...I have no idea where to begin and nobody around who carves so everything is just floating around right now.

I'm here. I've gone snowboarding only 3 times
1st time) Whitetail in west virginia. i was better than my brother and my dad (both of their first times too) but still not great
2nd time) school ski trip to Wintergreen in VA. They called me "Bunnyhill Bob" after that and for good reason.
3rd time) last year out in the rockies. My buddy and I visited my cousin in Denver and went out to the mountains for 4 days. I got thrown into the shit but, by the 2nd day, I was feeling it and when we hit keystone for night skiing.
Best time of my life. Doing it again this spring break!
Rentals the first two times. I just borrowed my cousin's old board in CO. a Burton, i believe. i don't know much more than that. It had some bindings that broke on the last day.

Since both you ride hardboots, how do you like it compared to soft? I was thinking HARD about either getting a dedicated all mountain twin board or alpine hardboot setup.
What do you guys think?
the first 2 are pretty intuitive. if your riding firmer, snow most of the time (now loose/fresh pow), you could benefit from hard boots, but if you ride mostly pow, hard boots are absolutely worthless.
Another aspect to think about is how much your willing to invest. i spent about $800 on my "beginner" set up between a used board, used bindings, and brand new boots. while my buddy can slowly build his soft boot carving set by buying a burton custom-x, and then harder bindings (with a carving stance), and next year he'll get firmer boots.
i guess i would put a carving stance (both feet forward) your board if you haven't already, and try to go from there. i don't check this thread enough, so feel free to pm if you have any more questions, so that i can be notified.

thats a good place to start. it's a little out dated, but i dont think you need to be learning about the latest $3k kessler race boards just yet.
I would look for a shorter "all mountain carving" board to start
again, pm me if you have question, so i can get a notification.
