I did surveying one summer with a friend, for his dads oil company in west Texas. Can't belive the terrain a 3500 cummings long bed quad cab can make it through with a good driver and spotter.

this top heavy bastard went over that hill (not too steep) but steeper than the pic looks, like a mountain goat and the other side is 4l 1st gear no break no stopping to get back down as there is no where to turn around. I have had it up and through much much worse this is actually decent, all though narrow right of ways I have had in a while

truck is a 99 3/4 ton exe cab, long box ford re-sprung for the full 8' lab, with a wore out powerchoke 7.3 and a 5spd. Yes I get all the Junk rigs as I can limp them along, keep them going and get the job done with them. I did get a newer dark room this year though

Yeah, You can instantly tell the real off road trucks and vehicles around here from the street queens. They are actually dirty. lol

I disagree.

For the most part when I would go offroading my vehicle would not get very dirty except for lots of dust (unless it was snowing or raining) and we would usually make a carwash stop on the way home.

Now, the ass-hats in their lifted trucks and 2wd Wranglers were the ones who would sit in muddle puddles flinging mud and then not washing their vehicles for weeks just to look cool. Not to mention they were total trail jerks and made the whole community look bad.

My point, dirt is not an indicator of someone who actually offroads. Not saying hardcore offroaders arent allowed to get their rigs dirty. Just saying that it is a method for poseurs to look "cool."

I DO understand this in California...for SURE. however, in Alberta AKA oil/redneck capital of Canada alot of these guys take the trucks up North for working on the rigs, etc so a big truck that's not giong to get stuck in the wheel rut of a 797 dump truck is necessary.

Sometimes it's practical to have like a 3-5" lift but there's never an excuse for a 7-9" lift, I'll agree with you there.

I like how you think the tundra is a "proper truck" bring it out where I work, and just use it as inspector rig and you will have parts failing left and right. There have been a few inspecotrs that have tried the yota, and have gone right back to a Big 3 with in 2-3 years because of all the broken shit. T cases, and trannys have been the big failure points on the pipelines and oil and gas work

Ummmm yeah kinda the GM has a better ride thanks to the IFS, but it did knock the shit outta the ford in performance and towing ability. for 2010/11 Google rumble in the rockies

My personal truck is a GM because I have spent way too much time, in all makes and know what each strong and weak points are. The GM is the best compromise of all worlds (3/4 ton and up anyway )
