Considering Nissan's... 240sx/Silvia

I have owned two s13 coupes. Single cam ka24e and twin cam ka24de. Both were auto that I converted to 5speed. I swapped an sr20det into the ka24de. Spun a rod bearing after a year. Sold the car with a rebuilt bottom end. If I were to do it again, I would have just put on a turbo onto the ka24de and used an Jim wolf chip. I would have saved $ and would have had the same amount of fun.
My friend owned a rb25det powered s13 fastback. Was fun and was fast enough that it didnt merit a turbo upgrade. Now he owes an R33 GTR.Leave a comment:

You people can think what you want about me, i personally dont care. All i was saying was that a properly built KA will last longer than a comparable SR. I've helped my buddy build his KA-t, and SR. Guess which is curently in his car without spun bearings, and lasting twice as long with more power. That is my reference, maybe just a freak ka, or a bad dozen SR's i've seen, I could care less either way. If your going to spend money on a swap, go I6 or go home. This has been my point the entire time. How that turns into a shitstorm i have no idea, people are just butt hurt because they don't like the idea of a cheap shitty KA-T trumping their "almighty" sr imo.Leave a comment:

holy shitstorm batman ^^
i think (and this goes for any OE turbo engine), the SR is preferable because the factory designed it from the ground up to be forced induction. most can take alot of beating (within reason) because every component was designed and manufactured with the intent of being under the strains of boost.
so yeah, as a matter of upgrades, its typically easier, cheaper, and more reliable to get an OE turbo engine to a certain power level than a OE NA engine of similar displacement. thats not to say that it can't be done, or it can't be done well.. its just a more logical route.Leave a comment:

lol @ danny.
I love sr's because they are less headache. Motor is already turbo, all the lines are there, individual coil packs, etc.
Although if i bought a 240sx and I already had a ka id build a kat. People out here in miami have 600+ hp kat's. Its pretty nuts.Leave a comment:

Rocker arms for sure, huge issue. I turned down my rev limiter just to try to keep everything happy.
Do want VE head...Leave a comment:

Xwill112x, what you have written in this thread about KA vs SR engines is some of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered the truth. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
There is a glimmer of hope for you. I dislike SR20s with a passion after having to work on them a bunch in drift/drag/street/circuit cars. Main bearings might not fail too much, but rocker arms do.
Having samped a couple of single turbo 2J S13/14s I have to say i prefer them, even with the big iron lump up front. An LS1 or TT VH45 would also be good, although obviously not a budget build...Leave a comment:

From a m42 not m20, and with plans for a gt35r to slap on it. should be fun enough for me.
And why is there even a debate about ka's and sr's? seriously..?
All this being said, i think a mean e30 could be built for cheaper than a s13, people want way to much for them and parts lately.Leave a comment:

lolsrsly? You're going to say you have more wrench AND seat time than me?
Get out of town!
Besides, aren't you doing a NV swap?Leave a comment:

rofl, SRs don't suck at all.
Spinning bearings is usually user error. Too many rpms, n00bs that turn their t25 to 18psi, or people running their motors low on oil.
SRs are phenonmenal motors. Fully balanced, designed to rev and will hold power all day long. Proper tuning is the key to longevity for either one, but a KA, being not-fully-counterbalanced, tends to rattle things loose. They always seem to weep.Leave a comment:

I gaurentee i've spent more seat/wrench time than you have. I know enough not to waste money on a sr if i'm going for real power or a upgrade from a ka. Ka to sr is like m20 to nvm50. KA-t at 12psi is like 260hp on a shitty tune. 12 psi on a SR is more like 230. You pick, i'd rather have a cheaper, more realiable powerplant that makes more power. But honestly, fuck them both. Theyre both truck engiens anyway. like i said earlier. rb/2jz or bust.Leave a comment:

So what you're saying... Is you have no actual direct experience with either.i've always owned e30's...but i do know sr's suck. theyre cheap. thats the only reason people swap them in. i've ridden/drove in countless 240's s13's/s14's and helped buddys work on and build them. i've seen multiple sr's spin bearings etc at the track, never seen a properly built (not hacked or half ass shit) ka-t pop.Leave a comment:
