You people can think what you want about me, i personally dont care. All i was saying was that a properly built KA will last longer than a comparable SR. I've helped my buddy build his KA-t, and SR. Guess which is curently in his car without spun bearings, and lasting twice as long with more power. That is my reference, maybe just a freak ka, or a bad dozen SR's i've seen, I could care less either way. If your going to spend money on a swap, go I6 or go home. This has been my point the entire time. How that turns into a shitstorm i have no idea, people are just butt hurt because they don't like the idea of a cheap shitty KA-T trumping their "almighty" sr imo.

I have owned two s13 coupes. Single cam ka24e and twin cam ka24de. Both were auto that I converted to 5speed. I swapped an sr20det into the ka24de. Spun a rod bearing after a year. Sold the car with a rebuilt bottom end. If I were to do it again, I would have just put on a turbo onto the ka24de and used an Jim wolf chip. I would have saved $ and would have had the same amount of fun.

My friend owned a rb25det powered s13 fastback. Was fun and was fast enough that it didnt merit a turbo upgrade. Now he owes an R33 GTR.

when you say noisy do you mean engine noise, road/tire noise, or squeeks/rattles?

cause my e30 is plenty noisy in the road/tire noise department, and i'm always sure of what the engine is doing. doesn't bother me much! but i can't stand rattling interior pieces and squeeks from the chassis.

also.. what kind of mileage do you suppose these get? lets say it has an sr, mildly tuned (no big turbo beasts). i figure a 4 cylinder in a car <2800 pounds probably does pretty well.. but will it surpass the average 25 i get in my eta?

I used to get about 34mpgs on the freeway with my turbo m42. I'd imagine it would be comparable.

i've been reading around and it seems like only in poor repair or with a shitty tune will it dip below the 20s. otherwise it seems to be 20/30 or better city/highway, which is just grand.

No one builds them because they are a US only engine for 1, and they're not boosted factory. Why do i keep having to explain this. Drop it. :wgaf:

Yup, 30mpg if I stay out of the wastegate. 24 mpg in mixed driving.

                      Not bad for 350whp.

There are *plenty* of high hp KAs, I'm not arguing against that. Ka-t.org was started by a local guy here in Salem, whose KA made 633whp.

I just prefer the reliability and ease of upgrade of SR (which you dispute).

Everyone has their preference's and your not annoyingly posting without knowing what you're talking about and insults etc like some people, so i respect that. I would agree the SR is much easier to upgrade, but realiability is all on the builder etc. Most Ka-t's are half assed when built, thats why they tend to pop. The KA engine has to be built as system rather than slapping on parts as you would a sr to gain power. They weren't designed for boost, but do handle 10-12psi at 260hp nicely, and when you pop it, Ka's are dime a dozen, sometimes free.

SR are junk. I'd go a built CA18DET over a built SR20DET, any day of the week. SR head design is weak as fuck and does not take a beating well. CA18DET LOVE TO REV.

Not a fan of straight 6's in cars that were made for four cylinder engines. It just upsets the weight balance and makes them handle like crap.

Have you driven a JZ-powered S car? If done properly, they're just as well balanced as a near standard car but with more torque and more power. And they don't sound like trucks with fart cans.

If done properly which would involve cutting into the firewall and mounting the two rear most cylinders in there. JZ are great engines but they are extremely heavy. With that said, I haven't driven one but I have driven an RB powered S13. I belive a quad cam v6/v8 would be a better option.

I have to agree on the SR sounding like a truck motor though. Another little reason I like CA18's more.
