    Looking to buy a minivan...

was wondering if anyone on here had any insight on good/bad models? I'm really liking the 1999-2003 Honda Odysseys. It'll have to be a pre-owned one, currently unable to afford a car payment.

I've found an Odyssey fairly close to where I live, is there anyone who could run a report on it. I want to check for accident damage and things.

My parents own a 01 Odyssey, the auto doors break down lots and the transmissions have HUGE issues. It only has 100k and the tranny is already shit. There is a bunch of links on it, there is a defect in the tranny. They fixed it by now I am sure. But I would stay away from those years.
          Why not buy a 5 or a 7?

we have 01 ody, ^ he is right about the trans, there was a factory recall, so ours was replaced. they are great, plenty of room, easy to drive, good mileage and strong engine. Good in the snow as well. With 3 kids we couldnt have survived without it.

Um, well I gotta ask. What will a minivan get you that a Touring/Estate/Station-Wagon won't?

Do you need to put baby seats in it? That is a really bad van for baby seats.

^ if you have young kids, the auto doors is a life saver as well as the bigger doors and the ride height. Try to put young kids in the back seat of a car, then buckle them in couple times a day and then you know why minivans are great. As they get older the extra space helps with the "she touched me", "are we there yet", etc as well.

We have had such good luck with Windstars, that we kept the old one and turned into the GC shop cruiser. It has excellent stories from the last good Bimmerfest.

Yes, I have 2 kids, 15 months and an almost 7 year old. Both are in boosters, because Ohio state law requires children to be a certain height and weight before you can lose the booster. The Odyssey looks really spacious. I'm familiar with the crappy auto transmisson issues. I've seen some decent Windstars, I'll look into some of them. Our '98 Buick Century isn't cutting it anymore. The lady won't drive a wagon, she wants the big sliding doors.

                        2 kids doesn't necessitate a minivan!

Have you thought about a small suv also?

7 month old pees pants + sliding doors = win

The GC Windstar has sliding doors from the remote. Like a trunk popper, except the door slides open. Also closes, one the other or both.
