Remember that your body has a smaller sensor than pro cameras I don't know about nikon but the lowest priced canon with full frame is a 5d mark 1 that's an older camera and still sells for $900-1,000 most canons are aps-c sensors that means lenses are not actually what they would be. For example canons aps-csensors are a 1.6x crop factor so what is supposed to be a 50mm on an older 35mm camera or a full frame camera is actually an 80mm on my 10d which is appears to be zoomed more. So when you look up pics just see if it's taken on a full frame or a "crop body" camera. Nikons Aps-c is 1.52x.

So smaller sensor crops out the image. Because lens is designed for big sensor?

Well my birthday here is in two days. My 16th. My Mom said she would consider buying me a dslr, or chipping in a fair amount for my own.

              Im thinking a D90 :) used likely

Craigslist is the best for used equipment. Also when you buy Canon or nikon lenses their resale value is very high for instance a canon 50mm 1.4 is around $375 brand new and sell on craiglist as high as $350 also if I was to buy it used I could easily sell it for what I paid later on. This is not so with cheaper third party lenses like tamron, sigma, tokina etc.

But still , D90 is right choice right?

                  I might inquire about this - http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/ele/2226500291.html

He posted another listing with it at $500

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pho/2217195660.html - that looks like a great deal.

Shutter count doesn't really matter right?

You just gave me an epic idea for a shot. Same framing, long exposure, small aperture.

You shouldn't be posting in this thread if you don't own at least one tripod.

True that. 365 days of self portraits is a staple.

I have yet to do a 365 day portrait. I should probably do that, although it is a little difficult with constant travel etc.

                              Rules:

I did it working 12 hour days w/ an hour and forty five minute drive round trip. Pain in the ass, but glad I accomplished it.
