What I mean by "turn everything off" is all the stuff that makes the phone worth a damn. I.E., gps, 3g, push notifications, etc. I basically have everything but 4G, wifi and bluetooth on at all times. My old iPhones could go damn near 24 hours with everything on, so my Evo should, too. I'm rooted on 2.2 (I think, phone is in the other room). I've already had to take the phone into Sprint because it was randomly rebooting itself for no reason.

Why is it that my 1ghz Evo still lags when switching between screens or scrolling up/down a webpage, yet my old 3GS with it's 600-ish mhz cpu never lagged at all? I had to overclock my phone to 1.2ghz just to minimize the lag. Pathetic.
Something is wrong with the rom you are on. I use my phone constantly and I get a day out of it and it doesn't lag at all unless its browsing a jscript heavy site. It easily paces with my parent's iPhone 4s and has considerably more functionality with Google apps like voice search, navigation and sync.

Oh and when I do need 10mbps download I can turn on 4g, run wireless tether and surf on my laptop. Because of this phone I ditched my laptop card plan.
    Im now E30less.

I have a samsumg captivate that i am actually typing this post on right now. I was looking at the iphone as i have att, but even though the interface is a little more responsive, i'll take the options and such on an android phone any day. Plus, i got this phone for $50 on black friday, so the price was hard to turn down. I use it pretty constantly for emails, texting, music, and the occasional web access, and i get right around 2 days on a full charge....

Wow. Seems you're very well informed on the topic. "Guy" must be a great confidential info source!

There is no smartphone with better touchscreen and display qualities than i4. The two most basic things needed for these devices to be usable.

Most people compare Apple computers with the cheapest PC with the best specs they can find. Theres a lot more to a computer than specs. Comparing processing speed and memory is more of a sales gimmick now a days because no matter what you buy it's going to be more than enough. Less than 5 years ago high end computers had comparable processing speed and memory to bottom end computers that are being made now, yet operating systems and software aren't requiring any more system resources than they did then. Also, if you compare an an Apple laptop to a computer running windows with identical specs the mac will be faster and more reliable.
Macs also come with a lot of free, useful software that windows computers don't.

Put those computers you are comparing next to each other and you will see why the mac is a little bit more $. You can see it's build with better materials and better built right away. For example, mac laptops have aluminum unibody case as opposed to most other laptops which many flimsy, cheap, weak plastic pieces. The trackpad is the best i've used on any computer before by far.

The point is, like comparing cars, there are a lot of factors that the specs don't show. And think before you make outrageous comments like saying "macs cost 4x as much". Even comparing an Apple computer to a Dell the difference in cost is small and exaggerated by people trying to justify their purchases.
God damnit some of you people are fucking completely blind. I'm really not even gunna waste my time pulling up prices and specs. You wouldn't even look at them anyways, youre like a 90 yearold lady. I am betting job's cock must taste like a sour granny smith apple, cause a lot of people in this thread have his cock n balls DEEP down their throats.

man. some people are in such an uproar over apple products. the people that hate apple unconditionally are just as stupid as the blind fanbois.

i buy apple products because they 1. look nice and 2. work. that's all i need from apple and they provide that. so they do alright by me. my desktop i build myself, but my laptops (3 so far, will buy another within the year) have all been macs. and of course my media devices are ipods. and when my phone is up for a new contract in march, i will get an iphone4.

                    i love hatebois. fucking amusing.

Flash isn't a software protocol. Anyone who makes sites including flash knows not to make the whole site in flash (no reason to). The rest is games and dumb intros.
I'm able to navigate 99% of all webz, including rev while I'm taking a dump (right now).

And I'm not a fanboy, I only have the 3G and 4, I favor IBM.

Apple is the big Mercedes sedan of electronics. Expensive, easy to use, pretty looking and not all that enthusiast oriented. It's for people who don't want to get their hands dirty and just want something that will take them from point A to point B in style. Custom built PC's are the opposite; they're the tuners of the electronic world. You spend time tweaking them, upgrading them and making them look pretty and with a bit of skill they'll blow the doors off of the expensive Mercedes sedan.

Basically. There is CONSIDERABLY more functionality in android when you finally get it all setup but there is no way my parents are doing that shit. Iphones are perfect for them, its a lot more power than they have ever had before and, for the most part, its built to be retard proof. This is a big selling point as my dad was a VP with a secretary during most of the computer revolution so he can hardly type.

Being said had the iphone come to Sprint before Android matured I would, without question, have been on that platform and then broke it to gain functionality. I was just tied to sprint because my plan was half what it would be everywhere else. Now though Android has matured as a platform that its basically unstoppable. Its far more customizable and is a far more open platform so it benefits from the backing of multiple hardware manufacturers, a faster development cycle and it relinquishes control to 3rd parties.

So now, with respect to smartphones, its Windows all over again. Apple does put out a great product but it will never have the enterprise space so its going to be a casual product. There is already a big push internally with open and free domain management tools being developed by Google to make the Android platform IT friendly.

And then, slowly, Android is going to continue to chip away at Apple's consumer market share. Apple had the developers behind them but now that Android is the bigger ecosystem it makes more sense to develop for it. Some of this is being sped up by Apple's closed system that essentially put their fingers into every revenue stream. You (as a dev) pay the apple tax when you sell an app in their market, if you want to advertise you have to use their delivery system, which imparts another apple tax and then if you want to do in app purchases they are trying to get their hands in that cookie jar.

That made tons of cash when they are the only player in the game but with the explosive growth of Android, MS finally pulling their heads out of their asses and HPs backing of WebOS you are going to have to push a lot harder and live with much slimmer margins.

And as for RIM. Well I look forward to seeing their new line of products.... next to the Commodore 64 in the Smithsonian Science Museum.

Actually, if you don't mind jailbreaking and are a bit command-line savvy, you can do a lot more with it.

Btw, my wifi OBD-II adapter is coming in this week, so that's going to be a nice addon and a mind blower for people not familiar with iphone capabilities.

And I really want to get the O'Car iPhone dedicated car stereo asap. Probably the awsomest iPhone addon I've seen yet.
