I think Bridgestone had the upper hand because of the information Firestone acquired at the indy500... but Michelin didn’t have any tire they could race on!
I watched half of the race and fell asleep, but who would throw anything onto the racetrack? I guess I would be pissed if it happened to me.-Jason

I love the announcers, calling the crowd morons and stuff. This is entertaining.

My reply below contains spoiler information. If you missed the race (or Tivo'd it and plan to watch it later), do not....I REPEAT, DO NOT KEEP READING. This is your final warning. All complaints will fall on deaf ears. Ok, now with the legal mumbo-jumbo is out of the way....
Well I just finished watching the entire thing......drama and all. It is a sad day in F1 to see these events unfold. First and foremost, I feel sorry for all the fans who paid damn good money to attend this event and, to quote Bernie Eccelstone, got cheated. Geee.....no shit Bernie :loco: The blame for this entire debacle falls squarely on the shoulders of Michelin. They simply did not provide the proper tire and advised all teams that the batch they have on hand at Indy are not "race-worthy." I cannot blame the team principles for ordering the drivers to pit after the formation lap. As it is, F1 drivers put themselves at risk everytime they strap themselves into the cockpit. To do so in car with 'questionable' tires just puts them into the catagory of Projectile-In-The-Making.
This years' USGP is going to leave a sour taste in the mouths of many devoted F1 fans for a while. No telling what it will do to the popularity of this sport in the US.

I was there
Tires were failing as a result of low tire pressures and large amounts of sidewall load from banked turn 13 [indy turn 1] So Michelin ask the team to up the tire pressure [seating the bead better, bead being the failure] But not all teams thought that was enough.
Michelin ask the FIA to allow them to change the set of tires with a newly designed set with stiffer sidewalls. This would take place on sunday morning. FIA strickly says, NO TIRE CHANGES DURING A RACE WEEKEND. Michelin also asked for a chicane to be built, the FIA did not do so.
Thus making all Michelin tires unsafe, and causing the Michelin drivers to organize a drop out.
I place blame on the FIA first. They made a ridiculous rule to slow down certin teams. Michelin should of tested more at this track or simulated this type of load. The teams are not at fault, they pulled their drivers and cars to keep anyone from being injured. Altho they knew of this issue on friday, they could of changed them then, atleast they would not of been NEW tires for the race and would of had some time on them.
All that said: Personal Experence
I paid 60 bucks, im not leaving until the end. And not that many people did, the place was still packed. Help out some of us who didnt buy seats, cause as they left, we snuck in.
Anyway, rather uneventful, who would guess. Wonderd around, watched the cars, cause now you see a HUGE diff between the ferraris and other cars. Noises, engine, grip, areo package ect.
What gets me are the assholes who were chucking shit on the track!! WTF?!?!?! some mother fucker threw and entire bottle of beer.... hit the inside wall on the front strech.
Booing everything! Booing the teams that acually raced, booing during the awards, during the other countrys national anthem [you could of heard a pin drop during the US anthem] Hell, they even boo'd the course workers.... Chanting 'BULLSHIT' while the cars pulled into the pit lanes at the end of the race.
Only thing i liked... the Ferrari cheers drown out the 'Merican' assholes who had no clue why these cars had not started.

This is a political subdivision between FIA/Ferrari v. All the rest who will jump ship when the concord agreement expires. If Ferrari had agreed with the other teams, the FIA (Sir Asshole Max Mosely) would have been painted into a corner and forced to give some ground. This was a message to all the teams to get ready to throw down or bow out come time to negotiate revenue sharing. F1 as we now know it will be no more in 2007.
But Michelin's still the root of this problem.

Peter Windsor on Windtunnel this evening brought up some excellent points.
I was there to witness this event today, really a huge shame. Really hope there's some kind of refund...but seriously doubt there will be anything.
