$500. Fuck - that's one expensive way to play angry birds. Have fun wasting time and looking like a d-bag - all at the same time!
Meanwhile, I'll be in the corner with my thinkpad get work done, as real men do.
Or you could just do what a few people I know have done. Get a Nook Color for $250, root and install Android 3.0, and you have a small, full color Android Tablet for $250.
I have an iPad and I ridiculed the shit out of it when it was first released.
It is definitely not a full feature device but with the app store, you can do a lot with it. I needed a device for client interaction, when doing work I use a real computer. At the time, there was nothing else available, now there is a ton of choices but the new features of the iPad 2 still make it the best choice in my opinion. Standard laptops are way to cumbersome, full OS tablets are nice but they are heavy and have crappy battery life (plus cost a lot more than an iPad) so they weren't a viable option.
I don't play Angry Birds or any other games on mine, I do realize most people do nothing with theirs though. I can access our company workorder ticketing system, internet access anywhere with 3g, shared notes, remote access to any client's network and large enough that I can have a client review something on it with me. Plus, clients go nuts when they see us using them for business because they never thought they could be used for that.
Apparently it's good for "client interaction"...I don't know what that means other then you hand it to them rather than showing them something on a laptop? I guess that cool - I'll buy that. I think that's neat.
With that said, that's not what 99.999% of what people are using it for - so lets not pretend that this is a device for "work" - it's a entertainment consumption device. But really it's for guys that sit in coffee shops all day so they can show the world how much free time and disposable income they have. ;)
Oh the other hand, it's never a good idea to bet against Steve Jobs. He's been right so many times before....

Yeah it was the same BS when the ipod and iphone came out. Everybody hated it because they couldn't figure out what it was good for. Now everyone has it and they can't imagine life without it. I'm not the early adopter type but I do buy a product when Its obviously cheaper and more useful than anything else available. In this case it does everything my laptop did for less money, less weight, no windows.
Well, it does SOME things better clearly and is lighter etc. But, in some cases having a physical keyboard is just plain better.... having RJ45, USB or HDMI ports are needed as well, and so is having Windows OS (some things just don't work otherwise in corporate environment).
Why is apple always slacking on the network capability? 3G is old now, you would think of implementing 4G? but then again, they did the same with the iPhone and all it did was boost sales for when the 3G came out. I guess they keep us wanting more huh?
isn't the iPhone 4 operating on 3G as well?
I use my phone browser a LOT. Often if I'm watching TV or a movie and I want to look something up I will bring it up on my phone (Android) rather than boot up my laptop. I work on my desktop with a big monitor and not at all on my laptop anymore, so work functionality is not an issue. For people like me the iPad actually does make perfect sense: someone who accesses the internet very frequently throughout the day to check things or look things up.
However the fact that iOS does not support Flash is enough to put me off of one for the time being.
