Screw Apple, if you want to pay 500 dollars a year to keep your stuff updated go for it, glad to see android has passed apple in total smartphone share! Insert foot in Mouth Mr Jobs I remember Jobs saying the other smartphones were DOA when they first came on the market
29% android 27% apple

What makes this different than the PC battle in the past is all of the 3rd party support for the iPod iPhone. As long as people aren't willing to give that up they will keep with their phones.
When are you going to see HTC, Samsung, Blackberry, etc etc compatibility in high end luxury cars... you're not. It's iPhone/iPod right now b/c the market was so filled with them, I wonder what will happen in the next 3 years.Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.

You're aware of bluetooth technology, eh? Every new car in here has bluetooth interface to connect with every single smartphone on the market. No need for make-specific sockets. What makes this different than the PC battle in the past is all of the 3rd party support for the iPod iPhone. EDIT: And WiFi for home entertainment.

What about chargers, speaker docks, alarm clocks, nike running equipment, so on and so forth.
There is a lot out there, and having an apple device means there is always a charger near by.
I think it's substantial enough to impact people's choices.

There are a lot of iPhone accessories out there for sure (a quick glance at the junk shelves in any Ross/Marshalls will confirm that) but I wouldn't say its as much of a factor as it once was. Blackberry has very healthy third part support too, and when it comes to chargers most phones that aren't the iPhone use the same universal Micro USB.What about chargers, speaker docks, alarm clocks, nike running equipment, so on and so forth.

As the Android OS is now proving, the way to bring down the iPod empire is by standardizing certain things and implementing them on a huge range of products. Apple may have gotten the jump on every other company with the iPhone, but it's impossible to win a tech war by yourself.Comment

That is spot on. A charger is not an issue. I remember there were quite a few of multisocket chargers (both car and standard AC), but now as microUSB is pretty much a standard that's simple. There are a lot of iPhone accessories out there for sure (a quick glance at the junk shelves in any Ross/Marshalls will confirm that) but I wouldn't say its as much of a factor as it once was. IMO buying an apple product just because it has a nice docking station makes as much sense as buying a specific car because it goes nicely with the garage you're about to buy/build.What about chargers, speaker docks, alarm clocks, nike running equipment, so on and so forth.

I mostly use wifi to connect smartphone (I have a NOKIA - crap, but navi system works nice) to home audio system, bluetooth for car radio. My fiancee has iPod touch and I must say it's the best portable music device on the planet (at least of those I used). But that's a single purpose entertainment device...

I am waiting for the Xoom WiFi to ship next month.
E-books (B&N, Borders and Amazon) and DL my 2 news papers every day Before I go to work(WSJ and USA today), so I dont have to hunt for them, and keep all my reference shit for work, in one place in one package.
Games are not that big a priority to me, but nice to have to kill some time here and there. The blue tooth connection to my Droid will give me net access anytime I would need it in the field with out having to pay for a second mobile device on my phone bill. I see it as win win.Last edited by mrsleeve; 03-11-2011, 01:27 PM.The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Were you actually around for the PC battle of the past? The Macintosh WAS the PC.What makes this different than the PC battle in the past is all of the 3rd party support for the iPod iPhone. As long as people aren't willing to give that up they will keep with their phones.

Its the same shit all over again. The issue with apple v android is the ecosystem. Apple is tied to a closed ecosystem supported by, essentially, one producer. The Smartphone device has matured and tablets based on a smartphone type OS are essentially matured because its essentially identical functionality with a larger screen.
The thing with android is they have an essentially unlimited manufacturing base. They can partner with anyone who is willing to build on a pretty standard template. Output is unlimited, price point is virtually unlimited and carriers/markets are virtually unlimlited. If a carrier in Micronesia wants to carry an iphone they have to negotiate with apple. If they want an android phone they could deal with someone much closer to home who specs out the phone, builds it and then slaps googles OS on it.
Sound familiar?Im now E30less.
