We have to restrict the right of people becuase sometime they aren't smart enought o make the right decisions. Like gun control, everyone has the right to bear arms but there are restrictions on it.

How about this, we make it illegal to burn a flag without a permit. Anyone can get a permit, but you still need to get it in order ot burn a flag. So when you fell the need to burn one, you go down to town all and get yourself a pemit. I see burining a flag as a from of protest, and you need permits to protest, why do a permit to burn a flag.

Personally I think there are better ways of expressing dissatifaction with the government than burning a flag.

I think that the south should stick to cotton and BBQ and let us Blue States take care of the whole "Government thing"

Have you guys ever been to the fucking south? I'm from Tennessee, have a 146 IQ, and voted for Kerry. Too bad the "intelligent" north is full of assholes.

and you tell ME to stop looking down my nose?

I assume that when you met all of these people, you told them of your 5 easy "you might be a moron if.." statments?

I had no idea however, that this forum was visited by some of the super-elite, such as yourself.
Do you fall into one of those catagories? Is that why you are so offended right now? And don't call me petey; you lousy piece of shit.

However, unless one is a dedicated student of politics (career politicians and political analysts included), then there is no feasible way to have a completely informed opinion regarding every (or even half) issue which affects that person.

Ken that’s not what I meant..
Just for clarification purposes; I don't expect people to fully understand all of the events and circumstances that affect them indirectly. I do expect that people don’t latch onto the beliefs/opinions of others. In order to survive in society effectively, you have got to be able to form your own opinions.. Otherwise you might as well be in a vegetative state, living vicariously through someone else.
                Dear Petey,

I will call you whatever the fuck i want to.

                Regards

I dont really feel offended. Getting my feelings hurt via intraweb by some guy named "Pete" seems kind of ridiculous... im just sticking up for the 175 million people that cant defend themselves to your assinine comments.

Some of my moronic capabilities allowed me to become a mechanical engineering student at NCSU...but most of the time i just use them to e-thug people on internet car forums.

While i find your IQ/voting thing quite amusing....high IQ levels dont mean you're NOT a dumbass. Im sure you experience this phenom every day Mr peter patter.

Flippy, while i agree to you mostley....all im saying is that when you start restricting rights, a slippery slope is stepped upon. As Rob said, there ARE more important things to worry about, so why is the government even WORRIED about passing some damn flag law. The priorities of the government seem to have gone somewhat arwy.

I'll just ignore the southern states prod.
We'll just turn blue states red by bleeding you out into the soil

id say its about time to back up the south now

i dont really care about flag burning being illegal, i always thought it was anyway.

maybe you have forgotten that this is the topic of this thread.

id like to know something pete.

did you conduct the survey of peoples IQs?
did they get a large and diverse sample of people?
if you didnt say yes to the first you really cant answer the second.
sounds to me like youll believe anything you reads on the interweb.
so according to you... you are a moron

but thats not really my point either

i dont know if you have any connection to any state below the line or even if you have ever ventured out of you comfy new england nest but generalizing all of the south as being confederate rednecks that are generally stupid really makes me want to add a number 6 to your list

                  6. if you generalize about things that you dont know alot about... you are a moron

                  rekon ill see y'all later
(translation for little peter) i believe that at a point in the near future i will be seeing you.

Sorry, but you've been had. The IQ chart is a hoax:

Chart shows relationship between 2004 electoral vote and voter IQ?

Flag burning is a protected form of expression, even though it's inflammatory (both literally and figuratively). Freedom of speech extends to nonverbal forms of expression such as art and music, as well as other forms of public protest. I believe that when the Supreme Court reviewed the case which started all this nonsense back in the late 1980s, they rejected the argument that flag burning amounts to "fighting words" not protected by the First Amendment.

Even though it's a form of speech very few would indulge in, it's still speech. Elevating inanimate objects owned by individual citizens to reverential status flies directly in the face of the freedoms the flag represents. Had Congress not lost its mind, everyone would soon have forgotten about the idiot protestors who instigated the controversy. It's lunacy for our elected representatives to be considering this subject for a Constitutional amendment at a time when the current eminent domain issue is a perfect case for a genuinely useful amendment.

That worked out reall well the first time you tried it.

I'm goint ot write stuff really small so people can't read it

I've been to the south many times, the people seem nice enough but everything is soo slow. I went to a drive through liquor store, it to the kid 15 minutes to load up 3 case of beer. I think y'all got lazy because you were used to having slaves.

The countries priority is fucked up. All of Congress flew back to DC to hold a session to determine what happened to a woman who'd been brain dead for 15 years. All because of the religious right and stupid people in the south, there is a separation of church and state, get used to it. In New York or Boston that would have made the paper, under the obituary section where it belongs, not national head lines.

You think that this flag burning issue is a waste of time? It's a first amendment issue, probably the MOST import part of our county. to say that a discussion on First amendment rights is a waste of time is idiotic.

Don't think the entire north is a bunch of assholes... its clearly just me.
Actually, now that i think about it... much of the northeast is comprised of assholes. maybe thats why i enjoy it here.

wait so you liked that comment?

Critisizing the south just doesnt bother me...the people that i consider real southerners are all very proud, hard working, fairly intelligent people. Stereotypes get passed around a lot and the south just becomes a whipping boy,

hah on a side note, on my way from Venice to Munich recently we met an Austrian student and asked him what he knew about North Carolina.

He said it was one of the states that lost during the our Civil War......and we were called the Confederates right?

                                Cool guy though.
