Japan earthquake: 7.2 tremor shakes Tokyo buildings
    09 March 11 00:36 ET

An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude has struck off the coast of Japan, shaking buildings in the capital, Tokyo, and triggering a small tsunami.
The tremor was centred 168km (104 miles) from the east coast, north-east of Tokyo.
A 60cm (24in) tsunami reached the coastal town of Ofunato, with other towns reporting smaller waves shortly after the quake hit at 1145 (0245 GMT).
There are so far no reports of damage or injuries.
Japan is well-prepared for quakes which often hit the seismically active area.
An aftershock measuring 6.3 magnitude struck after the main quake, Japan's meteorological agency said, followed by a series of smaller aftershocks.
Some train services in the area were temporarily halted after the quake, but they were restarted shortly after noon.
Tohoku Electric Power said its Onagawa nuclear plant was operating normally after the quake and Tokyo Electric Power also said its power supplies were unaffected.
I bet theyre all superprepped, hope theyre all good

A strong earthquake that jolted northeastern Japan Wednesday morning has prompting a tsunami warning, but the waves was unlikely to bring any devastation to China, said Chinese forecasting center.

The tsunami's intensity was comparatively low, said China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center in a statement.

Japan's monitoring information showed that the waves were only 54 cm in height.

The earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale jolted the east coast of Japan's main Honshu island at 10:45 a.m. Beijing Time Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was monitored at 38.5 degrees north latitude and 142.8 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement posted on its website.

Japan's Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning.

Its true tho. I wouldnt expect much damage in a country like Japan. Once the quake is sensed, vtec kicks in.

That's amazing that a 7.2 caused no injuries or significant damage. :Japanlikeaboss:

It didnt actually hit Japan, it hit a hundred miles off of the coast. And can you really call a 2 foot wave a tsunami?

are we talking about the same thing here?
it was 8.9 and a lot of shit got fucked up. not a 7.something with no injury or damage.
At least 350 people are dead and hundreds missing after a tsunami caused by a huge 8.9-magnitude quake devastated north-east Japan.

This thread was a couple days before the Huge one that followed with the Tsunami. All prayers go out to Japan. The city held up amazing for the magnitude of the 8.9 that struck. It was the Tsunami that could not be stopped. Japan is going through hell right now. All the best prayers and wishes go to Japan.
