    Not true, GPS's we're bred to be family & hunting dogs. What about Labs? they're retrievers, ergo, a hunting dog, and one of the most popular family dogs in the US. I have a 2.5 year old male GSP named Gunther, he is my 2nd GSP;

    As mentioned before they are VERY high energy and require lots of exercise regularly. Mine needs about an hour of fetch with the Chuckit or a 2 hour, fast paced mountain bike ride 2-3 times a week and walks twice a day to keep him even keeled. Otherwise he gets to be really hyper and occasionally destructive, so it's in everyone's best interest that he gets out to play frequently. He is extremely loyal, and smarter than I would like sometimes. I've spent tons of time training him and he is responsive to voice commands in any situation, well behaved on and off leash, good will all dogs and people, and an excellent hunter, pointer, retriever, & guard dog. It takes time, patience, and repetition, but they can be trained to be very obedient dogs. They're long lived, with minimal health issues, so if you go with a GSP, plan to spend lots of time with him/her working on training & obedience so you can enjoy the company.
