90% of subarus do. It's not an auto vs manual thing, only the WRX, 91 Legacy Turbo, and some outbacks have LSDs.

Hasn't impacted the car's snow ability whatsoever.

my mom has a manual outback limited and my sister has an auto crv. both are 2000s.

outback is a much better car. it has 245k miles on it, my sisters crv has 190k. outback is in much much better condition. of course, my mom takes care of her cars, so that might have something to do with it. but it looks great. no rust. runs nicely. shifts nicely. interior is in perfect condition. will do some nice 4wd tire spin on gravel.

i'd definitely recommend the subaru. however, on a trip from MD to NC i saw 22mpg with the ac on. 23mpg with the ac off. something to consider.

I know this is about older models but I have the electronic cvt auto in my legacy with floppy paddle shifters and that cvt is a worthwhile upgrade. Although not really a six speed (it's a virtual gear shift), it makes it easy to drop down a 'gear' to pass on the highway. You can do it in auto mode, and once you are done passing and engine speed is stabilized, it reverts to "D". I wonder how incredibly expensive the fancy tranny will be to overhaul after 100k miles?

I want to meet the genius who developed the auto transmission. I mean it really is a marvel

                  that's cvt. continuously variable transmission.

not too much worse than 325i. 23mpg vs 25mpg.

To be realistic, how great of a car are you really expecting at 2-4k; obviously your looking at a vehicle with over a 100k. At 100k, both the honda and subbie are going to need maintenance and need a little tlc. In the picture no matter how much money you have; a car in the price range should be a disposable item. Forget which vehicle is better, get the best vehicle you can for the price.

You want a cheap small suv, look at old rav4's while your at it.

I say go subaru, I have an '00 2.5 RS that I love to death. Feels like a boat compared to the e30 but my family has been driving subarus the past 25 years and they are dead bolts reliable for daily drivers.
