It's 2. Parenthesis first means you work the parenthesis until there are no parenthesis in the equation. Because of that when there is a number directly next to them like this: 2(9+3) that part is done until the () are gone~thus giving you 24. :. it is 48/24=2
I really wish there was an actual therefore key on this keyboard...

Substitute x for 9 and solve for x.

48÷2(x+3)=2
Simplify by distribution:
48÷2x+6=2
Subtract 6 from both sides.
48÷2x=-4
Multiply both sides by 2x:
48=-8x
Divide both sides by -8:
-8=x

I don't need to search and find where it says this. I didn't want to learn in 20 years ago and i don't want to re-learn it now. It is what it is.

If you think its the same thing, then thats where you(and your broke ass TI-85) are wrong. Simple as that.

I commend you on trying, though. Get a TI-86

What it all comes down to, is that when a number is touching a parenthesis, it all becomes "X", 2(9+3) is a single thought, number, etc.

That is what many people say it comes down to, but the rule is not as consistently taught as PEDMAS. Some texts apparently teach this some don't. But it is not in explicitly stated in the Orders of Operations that I can find, nor was I taught this way. Pretty much makes it an addendum to PEDMAS in my opinion.

I admit I did not know this before Raxe's most excellent troll. He is talented in many ways.
