If you want to hunt 7mm mag. would be great good all around rifle but expensive to shoot. $50+ for a box of ammo. But for a starter I do with a .243 It will take down almost all deer.
Id look at Howa 1500's
In .223 ( If you can hunt with it in your state), 243,308,30/06,7mm mag
this woud be my pick
For under 500
and for a little more this one comes with glass

Don't fuck around with all these waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles-ass new "smokeless" shit, get yourself a Springfield 1861. That, my friend, is a MANS rifle.
Over a 1/2" bore, couple ounces of home made black powder, a big fat slug of good old lead, none of that silly copper shit. Go grab used tire weights, melt 'em down and pour yourself some Minnie balls while you sit around the old campfire drinking whiskey and singing songs and stuff.
If you have to dig the lead out of anyone, dead or alive, you get bonus points.
Target practice requires actual SKILL, a grouping of 12" is considered amazing...at 10 yards. Anymore than 30 feet having all the rounds actually HIT the target is impressive!
All the hot chicks dig a guy in Civil War garb too.

22s are the shit. really cheap ammo, and the low reacoil reall helps when you're learning to shoot.
don't fool you're self into getting something much bigger.
my first gun was a 30-30, while it was a decent gun, it was just too powerful and the ammo was too expensive for an inexperienced target shooter.

Yup. Guy above me is totally right.
FIrst time out witht hat ruger .22, I was hitting 2 inch groups of 20 shots at 10 yards. FIrst time ever shooting it.
At 50 yards I could blow clays off of a berm.
If you want to go "plinking" look no further. Its like 3 pennies a shot. A .45 is about 45 cents. Do the math

you guys are straight up fags, first gun I ever shot was an ak-47 machinepistol, Basically looks like an ak74-su. It's a small fucking AK. With a fucking 7.62. No stock or anything to place on your shoulder I fired that bitch with brute forearm strenght, Let 30 rounds of man bullets rip out the barrel. No fucking earplugs.
Grow a fucking cock and get an ak-47.

My first gun was a Mosin Nagant. Second was a SKS.
IF you want home defense, get a handgun or shotgun. Think about it, you're not going to be long range shooting intruders. It's gonna be close up. A .22 won't fend off a determined intruder.
Since you can't legally buy a handgun. I'd get s shotgun. Siaga 12 for me. 12 gauge with the action of an AK-47 = done. Grab some slugs and let 'er rip.<-- only a lot better.
