I hate ups so much! Picture heavy

So my mom is an extreme cyclist and triathlete.
She decides to perchase a used 10,000 (new price)dollar bike on eBay.... She pays like 5000 for it. It's full carbon fiber and weighs nothing.

So the preivouse owner of the bike ships the bike with ups ground...... (Idk where it's coming from)

    Then today it arrives.
    - First issue ( not ups's fault or maybe idk yet ) is for a 5000$ bike I didn't have to sign anything to receive it.
    - Second issue no notice of a ups man at the door aka a "knock "
    - third issue is the box Is CLEARLY up side Down!!!
    - forth issue is the box looks like this

Idk if you can tell from the pics but the fucking box looks like it has been dropped hard. Hard enough to rip the box and put a hole in it.

    - the dam tape on the box looks like it's from ups. The tape looks so fresh and clean AND it's not even stuck on all the way. Some of the tape looks like it was half ass put on. It had to have been put on after it was dropped. If you saw it you would have been able to tell right away that the tape is supper fresh. The ends or the tape weren't stuck on... Now I felt the ends of the tape and they were as sticky as packing tape can get.

    - fith issue is after walking around the box I notice shit falling out of it. You can see it in the second to las pic.

So if the box was dropped and the bikes frame is cracked... That would be it for the bike.

I totally think ups dropped that shit. Anyone with a brain could see that they dropped it and tried fixing the box with tape.
Idk if it's insure but I hope it is. But the sell on eBay is a fucking idiot for not having anyone sign for the package especially for the price of the bike.

We have yet to open the box. We want to fully document the event and the box so we will have evidence that we didn't do anything to it.

I'll post more pics when we open it.

Ps: I also hate ups because their shipping is slow as fuck!

dang. I work at a bike shop that carries a primarily Giants and Felt and we use UPS for all of our bikes and there have been a few that have been sent back due to shipping damage. UPS ground = conveyor belts and careless employees.

If you need to replace the bike and UPS doesnt cooperate PM me i might be able to set you up with a 'friend and family' discount on a replacement bike.

Every shipping company, including UPS, has made it clear that protecting the packages is not the number 1 priority.
I sold a 600 dollar soft top and framed it with wood before shipping. He put a 5k bike frame in that?? better be packed stiff inside..

this seller is a cheap ass, ..what a liability.

I once brought a pair of carbon fiber rims from the States to Europe for a triathlete friend on a plane. I had to check it in, I had them put every type of sticker they had on it. Fortunately it arrived in one piece, I was truly relieved...

I hope your frame survived, but either way, shitty business UPS does sometimes...

2nd and 3rd picture notice the rip? That is done by the shop before it was ever shipped. That is not a "drop" and fix damage. That is a tear from opening it for the first time. Notice house the staples are missing and how they go along with the tears?

Dropping a box will leave a crushed effect not a tear. Also the guy delivering does not know the contents and thus what does he care if it is a 5k bike? He is just making his route leaving the boxes. It is a CF bike so it weights next to nothing so I am sure he had no issue carrying it to the garage.

If it was sent to a residents and not an apartment then there is no need for you to sign unless the seller adds it.

Plus UPS uses tape that is white and has the UPS stamp on it. I asked for some and that is all the UPS stores around here carry. But who knows.

I am sure the bike is just fine and the only thing I would take notice on is the puncture in the side.

If it is a CF frame then you will be just fine even if it took a drop. My chiropractor has a custom 15k road bike that is CF EVERYTHING. I can lift the whole thing off the ground with my pinky. And he rides the shit out of it, I am sure your mothers bike is 110%

Oh man, that's a bummer. I would likely get ahold of the seller. That doesn't look packaged properly. I worked in a shop for 3 years and we regularly boxed and shipped bikes for customers. A normal alum or steel bike isn't as much of an issue but carbon bikes have very little impact strength and need to be packaged much better. How do I know? because the first bike I packaged and shipped was a Trek Fuel ex 9.8, a $6-7k bike. I'm pretty knowledgeable and though I did a good job and was checked over by our senior service manager and shipped UPS, documented pictures, fully insured for retail value aswell. The bike arrived to the new owner, box is smashed, re-taped and when he opened it, the front axle has smashed a hole through the downtube. A two month long battle with UPS over them accepting the insurance claim ended with them saying it wasn't packaged properly and needed atleast 2 inches of space and padding on each side...yea, BS, bikes don't come from the factory like that. Anyways, we ended up having to pay for a new frame for the guy. Sorry for the long winded response but figured I'd share my experience and hope you guys get it sorted out

Yeah, I think your issue is with the person who sold/packaged/shipped the bike, not so much with UPS.

I worked for UPS seasonal, Fed Ex part time and DHL international at one time or another. Yes that happens with every shipping company out there and there is nothing you can do about it. We actually damaged fragile packages on purpose. A huge, badly packed box like yours is just asking to be treated like shit. If it's over a grand worth I would have crated that shit and eeven then, there's no garantee.

Sorry to hear about this Cami and hope it was insured.

Why don't you try handling a bazillion boxes every day, and see if you don't drop a few. Shit happens, yo.
                          That's what's insurance is fo'.
If your mom didn't have them insure it, then she's dumb.

You seem really smart. You should post more.

OP: If that was my $5k bike, I'd be pretty pissed too. However, I'd be more upset at the package than UPS's job of delivering it. A hard wood box is obviously preferred, but if its being shipped in cardboard, it should be packed so tightly that no possible damage could occur to the bike in the event it gets manhandled (as most packages do). I ship a lot of shit via UPS, and I always keep in mind that they dont care nearly as much about my package as I, or my customer do.
