Thanks for posting bro. I still get all teared up everytime I'm reminded. I was up early that morning watching the race and recall too vividly the horror of it all. I pretty much quit watching F1 after that.

      RIP Senna.

It's a little late today but Netflix had the Senna film up yesterday. It's a great documentary, I'll def be going to see it again.

Roland Ratzenberger Died during Qualifying on April 30th. RIP

When track officials examined the wreckage of Senna's racing car, they found a furled Austrian flag. Senna had planned to raise it after the race, in honour of Ratzenberger.

RIP senna. I remember like it was yesterday. Never understood why my father was so upset(I was only 8) until I did some research on him in highschool. Ayrton was much more than just a racecar driver, he was a fuckin saint!

My friend and I spend hours on YouTube studying his driving, simply amazing the determination he had to win!

I wore black. No one seemed to understand. A couple years later I met a Brazilian exchange student. I told him I was sorry for his country's loss. He got choked up & just nodded.

Johnny Herbert drove up with him in Ratzenberger's Porsche. Not sure how he got home.

I remember I was living in central time zone, so races started at ~630am. Didn't set the alarm, just woke up when I did and watched it. Usually I woke up in time. This time for some reason I slept a little late, then suddenly I was bolt awake. Like from a dead sleep to straight awake. got up immediately, went to the other room, turned on the TV...they were showing the replay of the crash. I think I woke up the second he hit the wall.

An NSX was a cake walk for this guy. He may as well have been on his morning commute driving with his knees drinking coffee.

                          Awesome clip.
Somehow he just glides through the track, only way I can describe it.

Truth. I still live in CST and races did start at 0630. I had tried to get Eric Giles (also a member here, we were roomies at the time) to get up and watch the race but he wanted to sleep in so I was watching alone. I was horrified when I saw it. I remember seeing him take a deep breath, like a deep sigh, and that was the only movement I saw. Of course a short while later it was revealed that he had passed. I cried. I still do when I think about him. He was the best. The rainmeister. Mr Monaco. Just pure badassness behind the wheel of a car. Amazing.

I rocked this plate for a good while and when I retired it from my vehicle (it is an actual MS issue plate), I had a sign company make me up the month and date stickers to look like the real thing. My ebay username is "ayrtonsds" even. It's not much but I did what I could. Even considered getting a tat of his "double S" logo, but never did it. Hmm.

i've been trying to stay away from posting in this for a bit now.. I have to say it's cool that you guys remember and give some words. It was and is, everytime it's brought up or remembered, really emotional. As a little kid in Brasil during his era, he was like a national hero. My dad would buy me magazines and stickers constantly. He was a huge national figure to all of us.
