You guys act like it is a crime to want to support your offspring and give them a better future. Just because you guys worked for it (which is great) it's not like a parent can't give their child money to help them out in the world. As you guys said, life isn't fair, you want to give your children the best opportunity. And, before you ask, I have student loans as well as parent contribution (gratefully).
To the OP, if your mom makes less money or doesn't have a job then you can have her fill out the FAFSA. Sooner the better if you want gov't money.
I'm not sure how you grew up or what your goals are, but I always wanted to attend a 4 year school for the education AND the experience. So if it were my choice I'd do the FAFSA and take out loans and get a degree that will allow me to pay them off. (this is what I'm doing)
If you want to miss some college experience (granted still have plenty of others) I'd suggest going to a community college for an AA and then transferring to a four year with the money you have saved and some loans.
I'm not sure what your plans are, what you want to do, or where you were thinking about going to school. By this point you should already be hearing back from where you've been applying I would think.
