You do what you have to, to ensure you come outta it alive, and that may mean someone else dose not. In this case the kid made some "questionable" decisions.

like sleeve said, it is not so much about protecting $200 worth of car parts, but protecting yourself.

this was a premeditated robbery, not trying to rip the guy off for his parts.

at that point the guy should have also called the cops, gave a description and let them handle it; not gone and hunt them down himself, especially when he was robbed at gun point.
