You can say that about any car. Just because you enjoy working on your e30 doesn't mean you love it any more than I do.

I've done everything from suspension, dash replacement, fuel system, stereo, almost all the bushings (got my powerflex subframe/RTAB's installed, thank god), and a ton of minor stuff on my 318is.. I didn't enjoy doing any of it, but I love the shit out of my car.

This car is most definitely for me, because I enjoy driving it.

Nobody says you don't like your car. You just may need your man card revoked. ;)

I think the main thing I hate about rear subframes is the cars I've done it on. Rust makes every little small thing a pain in the ass to get off; the brake lines are always frozen or bad, the rear rotors never come off, the axles get stuck going in and out, the ABS sensors are stuck into the hubs, etc.

I don't like doing rear subframes. Or diffs when you don't have a lift. Those 4 stupid bolts never line up.

My subframe was the first one I'd ever done, and we got lucky, the damn thing pretty much just fell out.

Diffs have never been that much of a pain in the ass if you have a decent floor jack, but it took me 15 minutes to get the last top bolt lined up when I put my new one in this last time.

Heater cores hard in e30's? Are you kidding me? It's like a 40 minute job if that (even the late model cars with the valve)...

Honestly. Do one in a B5 passat then come back and complain about your e30.

I'm not saying that it's sacrilegious to pay someone to work on your car. Hell, I dropped my G260 off at German Transaxle and told them "do what it needs, cause I'm not".

But this is just one of those cars that you shouldn't own if you don't want to fix shit yourself. Labor at European shops alone is generally $75-90 an hour or more, and often they WILL charge you book time for whatever it is, regardless of how long it takes.

Don't get me wrong, there's satisfaction in modding and turning your car into something great. But I think i'd be just as happy seeing it done to my specifications while I sip a latte and then go throw it around the track

Replacing The oil pan on my 535i with the m30 still in the car was the biggest PITA I have had to deal with hands Down.

the detent pins on my zf transmission. Whole friggin' thing has to come down to replace two $8 kits. It's the principle.

Transmissions and heater cores. The last heater core that went out on me just got taken out of the loop. $600 for a shop to replace it or or or or me break every piece of old plastic car taking it out for replacement.

Thing I hate fixing most? Water leaks or shifter linkage, with rear subframe crap right behind it.

I hate removing rust. There's always more than you want there to be and it's always in the biggest PITA place to get out.
