Nice stuff, but I can think of at least one other builder I'd use. And even then, you really only need a M20 expert for the head (port/polish/etc), the bottom end can be handled by any competent machine shop.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

^I agree with you. That's why I ditched the V8 idea and am going 2.8L turbo.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

I still don't understand the hatred of the timing belt, especially on stroker motors with full valve reliefs.

Replace the belt every 60, or when it snaps. I would rather have a set service interval then a set-it-and-forget-it timing chain. Comment

lol... a timing belt kit is what these days... an extra 100 bucks every 40-60k? Yea, I think I can live with it.

yea, but a timing belt kit with water pump sets me back only $90 and I can have it knocked out in about 2-2.5 hourshttp://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=92474

I just don't like them. There is a reason timing chains are (mostly) the norm now. With the exception of Volvo, VW, and Audi (with a $3-4k timing belt job on the 3.0 V6 cars) everyone else has learned.

I am from an M30 world, so I am naturally biased. ;)

 so.... not really a big expense there...1989 cirrisblau-metallic 325iComment

I never have to worry about it so it costs me $0.

I did the belt on my e30. I won't be doing it again. Not that it's hard, but I'd rather spend my time doing something else.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

This. End of story in my book. Stroker m20 with valve pockets on the pistons and some boost = WINNING

If the belt does snap between reg maint intervals (I do mine every 2-3 years despite lower mileage) you simply retime it, install new belt and continue driving.sigpicComment
