In florida (I'm convinced the people there are the stupidest in the world) there is a case being tried right now about whether or not someone can be arrested for using somebody's wifi connection without thier permission. Somebody is actually trying to press charges against another person for using thier unprotected wifi signal.

That being said; Trying to hack somebody's encrypted signal is probably not the best idea. I suppose its not like you really have a high chance of being identified, just keep nothing in your shared folder, and disable your microsoft network so hopefully they cant even see you. Dont share itunes or anything like that. If they catch you the most they can really do is block your mac address... seeing as you're not sniping them from your car, and you could be coming from any apartment.

I'd say just go with some cheap DSL or cable provider... That way you're not stranded without the internet when you need it.

At this last PNW Picnic, Josh and I needed directions off of Map Quest and we didn't have internet access. So we went into a hotel and fed them the line that we were really lost and needed to use their wireless access to get directions. They let us and we got what we needed. Lol

the time you have spent trying to crack or post about cracking the signal could have been spent on working a job,
          to pay for your internet,

No, I meant that "hacking" it isn't worth it. Chances are, if they're smart enough to set up WEP or an equivalent, they'll check MAC user logs every once in awhile to check out active IP leases. If they find someone has actually broken their WEP key, expect them to change them on a frequent basis.

See how just words can be taken totally differently when typed on the net. You could have meant 14.95 was not worth it.

I agree with you completely. I just didn't know we were saying the same thing.

I have 128 bit wep on mine & I check regularly. There is a bench on the golfcourse right outside my living room window and someone could easily fish for my network. I pay too damn much to share with a thief!

^if your wap supports it, consider using wpa as an alternative to wep. much more secure :D
