No, mine's the first failure I've heard of.

The awd is maintenance free aside from fluids 99.99999% of the time. Totally unlike an iX.

Awesome. I want to keep the car mostly stock and not having to spend part of a day every week checking up on the car would be great. Especially in the winter. What kind of highway mileage can I expect? My dad gets at or more than 30MPG with his car with a 3.25 on the highway. He drives a couple hours back and fourth every weekend.

Bad. Subarus get terrible mileage due to the 3.9 or 4.11 gears combined with fulltime AWD. Best I get in my 2.2L is 25-27 highway, I average 20-22mpg. A 2.5RS I'd expect to be about the same, maybe a mpg or so higher.

My E36 m3 gets way better mileage than the scoob.

Ya thats about what I was expecting. A 2.5 four cylinder is pretty big too. What are the sorts of things I need to look out for most when checking one out? Any way to determine that the AWD works properly etc?

This looks nice but not ready to buy till October.

This one I would go look at if I were ready.

325 ix not an option? Id take a DSM over a scooby (ive owned 3 subies) theyre expensive to maintain, very cheaply made imo, difficult to DIY almost anything in my opinion.

i dunno maybe im biased, but the 3 ive had put a bad taste in my mouth and ill never own another one again
I can run Auto Checks on VINs for tips/donations:
PM me VIN(s) and I'll get you ALL the public recorded info that I have available.

IDK what the car scene is like in TX but where I live a DSM is a D-bag car. Wanted one in HS but now I would feel like a total bag of fleshy phallics if I bought one. Plus my dad will be driving this most of the time. No offense if you have one but everyone I see driving one is one of those flat billed hat/ baggypants hoodlum kind of kid.

Regardless of image, a DSM can be an amazing performer, but they are a maintenance nightmare--especially at this point.

Benefits of picking up a GC is the engine swap options. I was running a ver8 with spec c heads and vf36 twinscroll swap in mine for about a year and it is undoubtedly one of the funnest cars I've driven let alone owned. Light car, awd, 6spd + 350hp = endless smiles.

                        Haha!

How about a Merc W124 turbo diesel with 4-Matic? Superior looks, comfort, and fuel economy.

i really like my moms outback. with snow tires it's really quite unstoppable. but even on nothing but highway, i see 22mpg. 23 without the ac.

why a 2.5rs and not an outback? it's not like the awd system (and it's the weather you're buying it for, right?) is any different. outbacks are bigger and cheaper.
                          AWD > RWD

I really love turbo diesels but I feel like maintenance might make it hard to justify. I also want something Japanese though. Whenever I find one of these pretty much the only modifications I want to do is to make it more "authentically JDM" I go to Japan every few years to visit family and seeing real JDM cars makes me nostalgic. I was looking at S13 240s before my dad got the permanent position that made AWD somewhat necessary.

As far as outback VS. 2.5 RS Im a car enthusiast so I want something at least kind of "cool" or "neat". I wouldn't even mind a Legacy 2.5 GT of the same era but an outback is a little too pedestrian for me to spend my own money on.

I have a habit of getting OT in your threads lately for some reason, my apologies. About that JDM nostalgia though, here's a pic of my Dad's 3-seat '64 Datsun Fairlady 1500 #00043 at Crater Lake. He's also got a '66 1600.:D

My buddy Kevin has a beat up 2.2RS that's a blast on gravel roads, reliable too.:)
