Tiger kills teen during photo pose

MOUND VALLEY, Kansas (AP) -- A Siberian tiger attacked and killed a teenage girl who was posing for photos at a family-run animal sanctuary Thursday in southeast Kansas, authorities said.

The Labette County Sheriff's office identified the victim as Haley R. Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. A statement from the office said Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for photos with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her.

Officers and handlers killed the animal. Emergency personnel were not able to revive Hilderbrand.

Doug Billingsly and his family opened the 80-acre sanctuary in 1994. According to the sanctuary's Web site, its animals include lions, leopards, tigers and bears.

Billingsly didn't immediately return a phone call for comment.

What drives me mad is these people are raising/ domesticating animals that weren't meant to be domesticated. Then when these animals resort back to their instinctive predatorial behavior and maul/ maim/ kill some innocent bystander..... they destroy the animal! WTF! Maybe we should hold the handlers responsible? After all, if my pitbull kills your little girl, I'm going to jail.

I could not agree more! When I was a kid there was a Polar Bear in the Central Park Zoo. I loved that freaking bear. One weekend we went to the zoo (did it every week) & he was gone. Some idiot went into the pen & was mauled (go figure) and the cops shot the bear!!!!

Here's the tiger that did it... Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary has a super slow website, and it probably won't be up for much longer.



That lions head is bigger than the guys body... probably snapped the teenage girl in half. Went to the AP website so this story is definitely legit.
