    it's very beautiful not too far off(50mins?) from an awesome city and the locals are pretty nice, no redneck's or wangsters, just people with good heads on there shoulders.
    Lake Travis is one of my biggest recommendations. You can find large lots for cheap and anywhere in the Austin & San Antonio areas will be beautiful. The cities are large enough to provide plenty of entertainment when needed. Austin is my favorite city in Texas.

    If you want something near a bigger city, the west side of Katy and north side of Conroe are two nice places in the Houston area that give you access to the city and still some major peace and quiet. The down side is the humidity but that's more in the summer (when you'll be back up north) and Spring is gorgeous!

    Santa Fe, New Mexico is one of my favorite places in the southwest. As well as Tuscon, AZ. Either would make a good choice.

            California = smog.

            I don't think his cars are going to pass smog.

                [quote=z31maniac;2738128]I'd say OK.

                $350k will buy you a large ranch house, detached massive shop, on 10 acres within 1 hour of either major metro area.

                Even TX can't touch the cost of living here and you'd be within spitting distance of one of the most Technically demanding road courses in the Midwest, and they have frequent and super cheap track days. http://www.hallettracing.net/

                    The things your looking for pretty easy to find in all three states. What are some of the x factors like distance to family, preference of culture, landscape?

                    I can tell you Phoenix and Tucson are completely different in the culture and landscape but for an outsider they may appear the same. Tucson has a better culture and small town feel but shittier streets, higher crime rate (your price range would put you in the nice parts of town though), and poor transportation system.....Oh and fucking hippies and illegals, but hey Tucson has great food because of those people.

                    Phoenix feels like a large city, its sprawled out and has decent freeways. Housing has better choices than Tucson and you can actually have grass opposed to Tucson not having the water rights and reservoirs Phoenix has. To me Phoenix lacks culture, its just a bunch of shitty parts of town mixed with a few middle income areas and a couple high end areas. I'm native 5th generation to Arizona, so I'm a weirdo because everyone else is from California or the mid-west hence why it has no true culture or identity. I think you would like the Lake Pleasant/North Glendale or Cave Creek Areas of Phoenix. Or as others have suggested the Prescott/slightly northern areas.

                                blunt becomes a snowbird, this is the way the world ends.

                                But really, living in Arizona my whole life I can pretty much echo what other locals have said. The market here right now is insane for a buyer. Arizona was one of the leading "booming" housing states. They were building them as fast as they could. Greg already touched on a lot of this, but your money can go a long ways here if you look around. Our local BMW community is a good group too.

                                Only if he's poolside at a resort/club wanting eye candy. There isn't much of a reason to be outside during the day... or even night. There's no wonder why there are so many A/C companies here.
