You have never met anyone with a Japanese or Chinese symbol? Do you like in a town with a population of 50 people?

      Wow.

Anyways, I've got a fairly small one on my right back shoulder. It's a C-130, since this is what my dad flew during Vietnam and where many of his stories came from, that's what most reminds me of him, so I got it as a memorial.

They are addicting though, after getting that one I think I'm gonna get a more elaborate one on my right hip, just above my pant line. Most likely it'll be a wave, with a surfing skeleton on it. Prolly wrap around from my back to my hip bone.I know it sounds dumb when I say it, but I've had a fantastic artist draw it out for me and it looks amazing.

Also, tatoos don't have to have a meaning, you can get them for a variety of reasons. Some people get them as just an addition to their body, like hanging a painting on a wall. Others get them as jokes, like my roomate. He has some damn funny ones, inluding Nike swooshes on the tops of each foot. He's also got a dollar sign on his right calf to make fun of assholes like you who decide that a chinese symbol is "hip". He says it's for his Jewish heritage...

One of the worst reasons to get one is to "rebel". Your just gonna regret it later. A girlfriend of mine got "LOVE" tatooed on her wrist, and at the time I told her it was stupid and generic and not to get it. She did anyways and just 8 months later she hates it and thinks it "white trash". Now shes paying $600 to get it removed.

You sound like you need to really think about why you are putting something so permanant on your body.

I just have to say that reading this thread makes me realize how ignorant some of you are. Speaking as someone who has several tattoos, I'll tell you right now that a tattoo doesn't have to have some big, powerful meaning behind it. People get tattoos for a multitude of reasons. And you shouldn't have to justify it or explain it to anyone. Do what you want, not what other people tell you to.

Just be sure that it's what you want to do, and be sure that it's something you will like. This is going to be on your body for the rest of your life. I get people all the time asking me "what are you going to do when you're 60 and it's all nasty looking?" First of all, if I gave a fuck what it was going to look like when I was 60, I wouldn't have got them. I'm not worried about that. Second, people who don't know anything about tattoos don't know that the inks and pigments used in tattoos now are almost completey synthetic. You know all the old guys you see with military tattoos that just look like big, fuzzy grey blobs? Tattoos don't do that anymore. The inks used now are desgined specifically to hold their color and not bleed.

In the end, it's your decision. And I'll tell you something else, you should know better than to come to somplace like this and ask about getting a tattoo. I knew exactly what this thread was going to read like as soon as I saw the thread title. Talk to a tattoo artist, talk to several tattoo artists. Talk to your friends, and people who's opinions matter to you. Not a bunch of kids who's lives are consumed by a 20 year old car. (Exceptions, you know who you are :D )

                kylebes1-

Get something meaningful to you. Once you got that, go ahead and get it done. What's really important is that you like it, nevermind what other people think since your opinion is what counts, just be prepared to get comments from people who see it though.

I know a lot of people who have never regretted their tatoos, but wished they had got them done on a different part of their body. If you get one, make sure it can be easily covered up.

I'm already talking to my artist about the next custom work I'm planning on getting and making sure what gets drawn up is done exactly to what I want it to be. I'd suggest finding someone whose art you like and explain to them exactly what you want the end result to be. Get a couple sketches, finalize what you want, and then you're set.

Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others, but it doesn't frickin hurt, you'll live.

                -Jeff

I got this tattoo of the family name after my father had brain surgery. It was a tribute to him and his hardworking ideals. Ever since I got it I have been reminded to bust my ass and do everything as best as I can.

One of the first and only tattoos I will probably ever get.

If you want it, then get it. I have 'compassion' in Tibetan on the left side of my chest (over my heart).

I have my daughters name on my neck in a spanish style lettering. I would never want it removed, and I am proud to show the name of the most important person in my life. I have other tatoos to, but all in spots that are coverable if i dont want them seen. do what you want---- but i would never get a chineses character!!!!
