LCD's, TV's, DVD players, need advice

I'm going to be investing in a few goodies for the apartment soon and I was looking for advice on 3 products.

First, my computer monitor is starting to show it's age. It's a 19" Trinitron that I have loved but its getting old and starting to get a little blurry. All I really am looking for is something that can run 1600x1200 res and is good quality as I do a lot of graphic design and photo editing. Looking for maybe a flat screen on a budget. Recommendations?

I am also looking for a 27" TV on a budget as well. Something to get my through the next couple years. Would like a little expandability - maybe the ability to add a basic surround sound system? S-video for my DVD player?

What are some decent bottom of the line DVD players? Good manufacturers? I just need your no frills player. Anything is going to be better than using my PS2 to play DVD's, but I know some brands are better than others. What are some good online sites for purchasing DVD players?

Thanks for your time, and help would be appreciated.

I bought an Apex DVD player for my dorm - it was like 30 bucks at circuit city and it worked great - still does 3 years later. Doesn't look like anything special but works as well as 200$ players.

Sony has some decent Wega tv's in that size for under $400. I picked up a 36in. WEGA flat screen for about $500 on sale... not that much more money for the larger screen.

I'd like to know about the monitor situation as well, so let me know if you come up with something on your own.

I really only need a basic 27" tube, I don't need HD ready or anything like that.

I checked that page out. Looks like some awesome deals. 27" flat DVD ready for $218, non-flat for $168.

Is it worth springing for the flat screen? Is there a big difference between the 2?

The differance is night & day. I recommend you spend the extra few bucks.

Even at $218 delivered that is a really good deal. I think that is something I might end up getting. Is it possible to add surround sound to a TV like that?

It has audio out so you can run it out to your receiver. You might want to look at the 30's & 32's unless you only have enough room for a 27 they end up being cheaperbecause they have free shipping.

Oh I thought it was free shipping on the 27 as well. Either way I don't have the flow right now but I will keep it in mind.

I was looking on newegg.com and they have some surround sound audio sets that include DVD players as well as a "home entertainment package". Panasonic makes a 5.1 audio setup with 400 watts and it includes a DVD player for $250. Seems like a good deal to me. Or I can get a 5.1 setup for about $120 and a no-name DVD player for $30-40.

My experience with all in one deals has been bad. Thay do nothing well and lots of things poorly. I had a pos Brother all in 1 printer, scanner, copier, fax that sucked.

Think about it things that do lots and cost a little are giving up something in many areas. Just my opinion. I suggest you get a good TV it is something if you choose well you will have & enjoy for many years. I have an old Hitachi 32 inch that is 9 years old and still looks great.

It's in my Son's room now and I am amazed when I go in there to talk or look for something he "borrowed" how good it looks.

It's not an all in one, its more of a bundle. It comes with the 5.1 speakers and a DVD player unit as well.

That is what is meant by all in one, 99.99% of them are crap.

Whatever you do, don't get the $20 special. I got a $20 Coby DVD player from Fry's Electronics, thinking that all DVD players are the same. It skips. really annoying.

I see that you are looking for a 19"+ LCD for the computer, but if you are interested I have a 17" Eizo Nanao Flexscan monitor that I'm not using anymore.
