Something I experienced, german vs american E30 board

    Hi guys,

I'm german, my english isn't perfect, just so if you wonder...

I use to read and post on here in r3vlimited, and aswell on a german E30 website (E30-Talk.com).
However, over time and reading through alot of threads and car builds in here, I came to one point that seems interesting to me.

Somehow I belive a huge difference between the german and american or international E30 websites (talking about r3vlimited now) is the way people rate or comment on other peoples work.

First of all, dont get me wrong, ok?
I have huge respect of all peoples work in here on their cars, sometimes our hobby can be really exhausting and hard at times, its not easy to repair and take care of old cars, especially our all loved E30.

But sometimes I'm not sure if the americans are honest on comments they post here.
Now what this thread is about, I think that in the german board, you recive alot more of criticism, no matter what kind of work you do / show in threads from your car.

I'm not just talking about my car, but about almost all cars that people present.
Not saying that users would call the cars all bad, just more points that, in their opinion, need to be changed or fixed, and so on.
While in the US boards, its more like, wow nice work, perfect shit dude...

So, I'm not trying to say that anyone should change their behaviour in here, just that its what always seems to be a huge difference in how people communicate on two E30 boards, that share the same threads and topics.

    Any thoughts on that?

And :wgaf: about my grammar... :D

I was at the Nurburgring on my own, and an E30 owner, came up to me in my E36 and without meeting him ever said "Your braking is wrong on track" and explained (including on track) what I was doing and helped me change my style. A british person the previous week said "wow your fast but I beat your time". Same scenario but I found the German guy to be a more direct person which helped me. Its mainly the cultures that promote our responses to other peoples work.
          Mhh, makes sense.
I wasn't trying to say that one way would be better than the other.
But I think you are right about culture.

is r3v being accused of being too soft? lol, awesome changes around here I guess.

also OP, we call what you are refering to as "Sack Hanging" and you are right, it isn't a good thing to do.

my experience was that i got WAY MORE help during my m50 swap in the US forums (got lots of answers here, thx guys)

i asked a few things on e30.de and got laughed at, ppl acted like huge dicks just for asking some basic stuff where there were no informations on the internet, things you just can't know until you have done a swap or two. they even claimed and bet their asses that my swap will never happen.

since then, i've never written anything, read or visited those forums. the saddest part is, that USguys und UKguys know WAY more about those german cars then the germans themselves or at least they share more informations. i always had the feeling, that german guys don't want other ones to have the same swap like they do. they have maybe the feeling to drive a unique e30...

this is why i like american ppl more, they are open minded carguys and like to share their experience, and help preventing making the same mistakes.

It's called Political Correctness, some bullshit/poisonous ideas brainwashing kids starting in Kindergarten all the way through adulthood. You are not supposed to "offend" anybody and be "respectful" to everybody even if that means that you are supposed to bite your tongue and say nothing. As an example, if your kid finishes last in lets say T-Ball, they get the same trophy as the champion. As the League president told me, ..."you don't want to offend any of the players"...My kid got reprimanded by his coach when he told a teammate that he wasn't running hard enough.
In my opinion, that is one of the reason why the Chinese are beating the good 'ol USA.
BTW, I was raised outside the US but love this country and would go to war for him. Just the way I see it.

Most forums actually ban you for telling it how it is. Its crazy but it happens. Most people are to scared to be told the truth about shit. And most people actually just tell the other person to fuck off because here in american most are stubborn and don't want to be told what they did looks ugly or pointless. But in the end fuggggggiiiitttt

Ps. Also my sig quote shows exactly how most feel here

i think it goes beyond e30 forums. its just how the culture is and the way of life.

I agree with all of the above, especially OldsCool.
People over here aren't as open to share how to DIY, they'd rather have you pay to have it done, because they think a swap (for example) is something that should be done with their "expertise" and not at home.

I think that is why having these forums with different crowds benefit our lifestyle, in a positive way. You can raise your self esteem here (or lower it) , & get C&C from other forums like e30talk/e30zone/e30.de
