OP is testing the waters. Dipping the proverbial toe in.

Not that much to know, IIRC. NA, flares, 13's, Hard Dog roll bar, bride seats.... Go to Clubroadster.net for some more inspiration. Miata.net is good for info, but lots of old curmudgeons there. I have had my Miata for 10 years. Was boosted to 300 hp at one point.

Miatas are similar in feel to E30s. Lively chassis. Short wheel base. But a Miata will handle better.

I've owned a miata. One thing miata owners dont tell non owners is that they are plagued with terrible chassis. Yes I said it. If an owner says that they have great chassis is like comparing it to a yugo. To perform well on the track it needs a cage.

Most NAs that I've driven if the wheels are 0.5 gram off suffer from terrible shaking. Look it up on miata forums you'll see. They seem to shake at various speeds on different cars. Driving position: feels like you're towering over the dash. You're constantly searching for a ways to lower the seating position. And they rust faster than an e30.

Then there are specific years that have damper & thrust bearing issues. Yrs to avoid are 1990 -1991 and 99-00. If you see any of these years for dirt cheap its because of the following problems.

Yeah mine was all "stanced" out too. It was a drift car, fun, fast, made lots of tire smoke...

Butterfly brace is a good starting point.

My Mom's got an NA; I drive it ever so often. Never noticed wheels/tires out of balance. I did notice the blown suspension, horrible flaking-off paint and absolute gutlessness though.

People think my car is gay. It depends which forum you're on.

I think those modded Miatas are cool. Then again, they are kinda gay, in the same way my cute little white convertible is gay. Damn.

Nope a roll cage is.. The chassis is made plywood.

Not all miatas are plagued by this problem. Numerous NAs have this problem. Its seriously annoying if you intend to use a car as a daily.

Then there is the gear ratio. WTH is up with driving at freeway speed (70mph) and the RPMs are at 4k? I find myself instinctively grabbing for another gear but nothing. I guess thats what Mazda had to do to make power out of a crappy 1.8 litter engine out of a Protege. That reminds me of the cooling issue it has if you track the car. Because the engine is was meant to be used a FWD car, it has cooling issues...

They car isn't gay in the way the world uses the term "gay" (homosexual.) Its gay more in the american gay meaning, its as different to the "normal" population as a homosexual male. Less acceptable to drive as a "cool" car.

I would drive one. But I wouldn't own one. The difference between buying a tranny and dating a tranny <_< wai wut

They are quite a queer little car. But I'd buy one if I had the spare cash. It'd make me feel all gay inside to drive the one pictured in the OP.

I would be comfortable with daily driving either of these hair dresser mobiles

Sure, if you want to deal with a cage and wear a helmet everywhere. I would start off with a $200 brace.

A 200 dollar brace is going to nor will it cure the miata of its terrible chassis. If this was the case, dont you think everyone on the miata forums would direct everyone to the brace for its short comings? I have driven a car with a brace and didnt feel a difference. Have you owned a Miata and bought this brace? Yes your mommy may have owned a miata as a grocery getter.

I've owned and tracked a miata. I have also driven numerous Spec Miata cars at open trackdays. They are great little cars when the chassis is stiffened by the cage. However, a non caged miata feels like poo.

WTF? Not all small cars have these issues. An e30 for an example does not have a weak chassis, bad gear ratio, seating position, and under powered engine. What can an NA with a 1.8 engine with a 99 head swap and dual exhaust cam swap accomplish? Maybe 120hp & 95 tq? My 200k mile e30 puts out 150hp and 150 tq with no modification to engine or powertrain. Are you going to say it has a better power to weight ratio? Well my e30 isnt a spec car so it doesn't weigh 2700 lbs. Miatas are only popular as track cars because they are inexpensive to run and parts and easy to get.
