I'm an asshole, my first thoughts when I saw the picture was, "I got dibs on the seats."
But after reading the blurb and article....this is just sad man. My condolences go out to the family and friends of the lost drivers. R.I.P.

Yes, my point is that the cops had something better to do than pull someone over for talking on a cell phone, no one would have died. Not the cop's fault, just social commentary.

I'm thinking they noticed the cell phone, looked the guy up, and saw an arrest warrant or something else. the cell phone triggered it, but I doubt they started a chase because of that.

Arent there any other ways to follow suspects then to chase at high rates of speed. Someone always gets hurt or killed. Innocent bystanders, suspects, police officers. Its the same outcome. For what, illegal cell phone use? At the time off the pursuit, it was not known that a weapon was in the car. How about helicopter pursuit? How about a magnetic tracer that is thrown by an officer at a pursuit route intersection that magnetically attaches to the car and the car can be followed by gps? How about finding out who owns the car by registration look up and gps their phone to see if they are the drivers. If not then find out if the driver is a family member, on loan whatever and gps their number. It takes maybe 5 or 10 minutes. If the car is stolen, the magnetic tracer will work.

Always property damage. Potential loss of life. Really these high speed pursuits are just not worth it.

That thing never had a chance against getting T-Boned at high speed by that F150. Whatever trouble the driver of that truck was in before the cops came after him, he has only made it worse now. What a shame that the innocent person had to lose their life and the driver got away. Too many times that how it goes though. RIP fellow E30-er...

What sucks is that the death sentence costs more in the end than paying for someone to rot in prison for life.

Whenever a thread involving police is started, you can basically bet your life there will be at least two people that have nothing more to add than "Fuck the police."

I wonder if they know how stupid that really makes them look? Last I checked, it was in the police officer's job description to pursue and detain criminals? Now, its pretty safe to assume that if a driver tries to escape police, there's a damn good chance they're hiding something from the law that would put them behind bars (that means its illegal, kids), and that person probably deserves to be in jail. So when a police officer pursues this person, they typically have a set speed in regards to the scenario (city vs country) in which they stop pursuing. I"m guessing these vehicles were not doing 100mph, damage like that could be something as slow as a 40mph vs 40mph impact; ie not very fast.

So to all the idiots that have nothing to contribute, think before you post "Fuck the Police". K? Thanks.

                        * and on the flip side; if the driver had gotten away, pulled out his gun and shot 4 kids at a bus stop, the same naysayers would be screaming, "Why didn't the police officers STOP them?????"

RIP. Hope it wasn't a student, that would make it so much worse.

                              Poor kid, RIP.

Whenever I see a car in this shape at a parts yard I can't help but wonder if its fate was like this, where the driver died in it and it just sat in a parts yard waiting to be crushed as I came along. Its surreal so I never take parts from cars like that.

Had this same thought awhile back while in a pick and pull. Saw a completely mangled volvo something, similar damage to the E30 in the article and some scrapper looking guys just pulling parts off it. I know that's what it's there for but the thought of someone dying in their car and then stripping it for parts made me uneasy.

RIP to the driver. Hope the driver of the pickup gets what's coming to him.
