    Related to the OP's story:
Good story to share on the news. I've heard a lot of good things about hyundai, but when my wife test drove one we both agreed that the honda and toyota "felt" better/nicer, and were turned off by the aggressive sales staff that talked about hyundai like it was a rolls royce. It is impressive how far the brand has come and the warranty is pretty legendary, but as Tommy Boy says:

...Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will...
    Haha good quote.

So after my discussion today we have settled on the extended warranty, 2 covered monthly payments and no maintenance for the first 30k miles. I was assured the people who made false commitments and were rude on the phone would be reprimanded, but that really means nothing. Still not totally happy, but its time to move on. I have used a lot of energy dealing on the phone and at the dealer and my wife and I just want our normal life back. I will probably never buy another hyundai, not that the car is a total piece of shit, but I have a bad taste of the company for now.

Well atleast they took care of you now, somewhat. Pretty sweet gig if you ask me.

Buy a car... sure you get a headache from it for awhile but for the next two years it is free to own except gas and payments.

Why would your airbag deploy in a rear end collision, that really wouldn't have done much for you but maybe break your nose.

Frankly I'd not have a good vibe either but, as someone who spent 30 years doing warranty work on cars and being around dealerships including being involved in helping place values on them I can tell you this.

The fact the car has had mechanical repair work in no way effects value at this point. You lost roughly 5 grand the moment you put a plate on it. Nature of the business, cars in general depreciate 30% in the first year alone. Not a solid investment. Period. Just titling it as a rule runs 3 to 5 grand off the top.

All cars are pieces of shit in one form or another. Trust me, I've been involved in many situations similar to yours. I have replaced engines under warranty in 150,000 dollars cars that were under 6 months old. I've replaced entire body harnesses under warranty. You think a transmission replacement is intrusive? Try having it gutted from the firewall to the tail lights and taking up 3 bays with the interior and trunk components. Point is, the cars were repaired and the manufacturer met their legal obligation.

I'm happy they came through with something to at least partially appease you. While it wasn't what you wanted they did do something which speaks pretty highly of the company to me. Did you think for a moment that they were just going to roll over and give you the keys to the CEO's office? Nah, they were playing it to see how determined you were. Typical of the business.
