    Any computer geeks in here?

Hello guys, I decided to ask for an opinion here, see what you think. I'll be getting laptop soon and I have narrow the search for one to two choices. I would like to know which one would you choose and why. Thank you!

    first one:

    Apple MacBook pro 13"

    • 2.8GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7
    • 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB
    • 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    • SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

    second:

    Sony Vaio SA390X 13.3"

    • Intel® Core™ i7-2640M processor (2.80GHz / 3.50GHz with Turbo Boost)
    • Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit
    • AMD Radeon™ HD 6630M (1GB) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology
    • 750GB (5400rpm) hard drive
    • 8GB (4GB fixed onboard + 4GB removable) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
    • Blu-ray Disc™ player
    • Internal lithium polymer battery (4400mAh)

One runs Windows and the other runs OS X, if you have a preference for one then you won't be happy with the other.

Really the big glaring differences are that the Sony has a blu-ray drive and a real video card. If you want to play games or watch blu-rays then get the Sony.

I should have said that I've never had Apple before, and I'm not sure how I'm going to like their OS, but a friend of mine got MacBook pro couple days ago, and he showed me a way to also install Windows OS on it, so if I ever need Windows for something I can still use it.

Then just get the sony. That really is the worst of the worst, why people buy a mac and then run bootcamp is beyond me.

That's like taking a perfectly running car ripping apart and putting something similar (not better or worse overall) back in.

Price of each? i always feel like Mac's are overpriced for the hardware they contain. It seems the Sony has a tiny bit better specs, though Im not sure what is meant by this: "8GB (4GB fixed onboard + 4GB removable) DDR3-SDRAM-1333" does that mean 4gb of additional RAM can be installed? or it's already in?

But the Processor for the sony is a bit better due to the "turbo boost" non-sense.
And someone already said it, but games will be 10x better on the sony b/c of the better graphics engine.

Last tip, if you attend university, get the sony no matter what, alot of programs that you may need to install for school will not work with Mac. source: my pissed off roommate that has to go to our public library almost every day.

This. My daughter borrows my $300 Windows laptop constantly when her Apple is incapable of doing any of her school assignments.

Price of the Sony is $1301.49 and the Mac is $1,699.00. And yes the Sony comes with 8GB Ram, I guess what that means is that at some point later you can remove the 4gb and install bigger. I have two weeks left of collage and I wanted to get a new laptop as mine is four years old now, and it's a huge 17" that weights a ton, so I want something new and small.

I will probably get the Sony, I just don't understand why so many people at school have those MacBook Pros when the Sony have a little bit better specs and is cheaper?!

If you're not accustomed to mac, go with windows. There's a huge learning curve. Not too sure about the sony though, haven't been looking into laptops much recently. I have a toshiba with windows 7 I got a couple years ago and its good for what I use it for: light, good in class, fits in my bookbag easily, and good at multitasking. I use my desktop for gaming, so much cheaper that having a gaming laptop plus much more upgradeable.

Because they are consumer SHEEP. They are uninformed, in most cases, and beg their mommys and daddys to buy them shiny gadgets, so people think they're rich and thus cool. They might also think they are creative and thus need a mac to edit a photo or two every 6 months, when in reality, maybe only 1% of the Mac owning population use macs for their creative capabilities. And lastly, uniformed masses think that having Apple OS means they will never have a virus or crash, when in reality, it depends on how you take care of your investment.

well, now that dermeister has called himself an ignoramus i guess i dont have to bother insulting him.

they are 2 very different operating systems. i use both almost every day, usually concurrently. i've had 3 apple laptops and i've loved every single one of them. i wouldnt get anything else. all my home computers have been self built pcs. i'd never use a mac for my home station, that's why i have my laptop.

between those 2 computers it comes down to:
1.) which OS you like using more.
2.) which one you think looks cooler.
                      3.) which one is lighter.

I've been a Mac user since they were all beige plastic and agree with this 100%.

In my opinion, as most people have said, it comes down to the programs you use, what its used for and which OS you like better.

In my opinion, there is almost no operating system that rivals Lion. The shortcuts, hand motions and just plain lay out set it apart.

If you like having to search all over the place for documents, and the headache of switching between many different programs then the pc is for you. If you like having all your programs made to work with each other, get the macbook. That said(and has been before), some schools can be dickish and make it impossible to use purely a Mac.

Lastly what do you use it for, or whats its main use. Design, recording, cad programs etc. the Mac easily rules out. Watching movies, playing games etc, get the pc I guess.

Trying to be as fair as possible haha, personally I HATE pc's and would never be caught dead with one. Just the amount of unlinked programs, and the way they work annoy me. Oh, and a Mac won't get a virus.

                            Go here be happy!

Most computer geeks wouldn't go for a Apple or Sony.

They would go for something from Dell thats loaded to the hilt or build their own desktop.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|
