it's not a myth and yes it is old. years ago when mac used powerpc chip architecture, the cpus could handle vector files much faster than windows based hardware. that's what gave rise to macs being used by designers more.

it's obviously not true anymore, since macs and pcs use identical hardware now.

Yeah it does. But not most of the time. It's simply not possible to get anything OSX related, to speak the same language as this. Cannot and will not ever happen.
Rockwell software anything. Never runs on OSX. They don't make anything for it. Try using Bootcamp or VMware? Nope. DH+ will laugh at you scoffingly. With any kind of PLC work pretty much, good luck getting a mac/linux/unix/anything except windows to speak with it. We tried to do it using old powermac G4's and G5's (Tried powerPC and Intel). Just to see if it could happen. The only way we could get it to connect to newer one was to use the Ethernet driver, but it would drop packets and the whole program would be corrupt.

Would I ever own a Mac? Nope. For personal reasons. But with my field and line of work. I'd be stupid if I did want to own one.

(Also. I didn't do the wiring in that picture, it was an old PLC that is now updated to a much better and newer one. It was a nightmare sorting all of that out and getting it into looms)

I'm a massive computer geek...the one Im posting on is very very close to the monstrosity with the lights above (mine is good ol' boring black). There are 9 computers in my house (tablets don't count), 4 of which are on right now and serving purposes....

For a laptop - http://www.malibal.com/ :):) I have an alienware (with no problems) but man Malibal is sweet :) 32gb ram on your laptop? No problem!

My wife loves her Viao (its only about 6 months old) if that helps you. She runs Win7 but has OSX and Ubuntu in VM's for when she needs them.

I hate macs, but i can appreciate a hacktosh.

On the cheap side - my sister and mom are very happy with there Acer $350 specials and have been for over a year each. I've also had GREAT luck in the Dell Outlet, tons of coupons out there and you get the same warranty.
