The truly beautiful thing about the M3 is this: its purity.
There are no nannies other than ABS. The driver has to know what they're doing. That said, a skilled driver can use all the chassis has to offer. The aero aids work, and the car tracks effortlessly above 80. Driving one through the Dragon, the big 4 making all the right sounds at 6k+......heaven....
The torque curve is literally as steep as the Matterhorn with 100hp not showing up until 3300RPM. This car rewards a driver that can play the gearshift and clutch like a virtuoso violinist, rev-matching through the corners to keep the motor on the boil for the exit. Doing it right is instantly rewarding.
You can have the newer M3s. I don't want one though. Never will.
Now excuse me while I slip out to the garage and take a peak under the cover and dream of Summer.
Hi Guys,
For the members who haven't seen one this is my 87 M3 and yes in my mind it is a true performance car and you have only to look at the race wins around the globe to confirm this.
It is a pleasure to own and drive and I intend to keep it in good original condition.
Some people complain about the lack of low down torque which there is not a lot of but the engine is a race engine with a short stroke to allow it to rev hard and win races not drag people off at the lights.
