This is not the smart thing to do. There is no comparison between a $20 "helicopter" from the toy aisle and a proper hobby level machine.
The smart thing would be to get into a true entry level helicopter, with full range control. The easiest ones to start with are the co-axial (counter-rotating blades), they are extremely stable and great for getting used to flying.

Once you get comfortable with that you can easily (relatively) move up to a fixed pitch version.
